Have any of you ever actually had to talk to the IRS? I know we all have to file our taxes with the IRS (and if you don't, you're a lying, cheating bastard) but actually talking with them is the most ridiculously futile experience you will ever hope to endure. I just spent an hour on the phone with an IRS agent trying to clear up several issues related to the company I work for. The IRS is the most bull-headed bunch of control freaks I've ever encountered. If things don't line up the way they expected, they don't take the time to actually FUCKING FIGURE IT OUT they just assume that you didn't do what you were supposed to and they start assessing penalties and interest. Then when you try to resolve the issue they make you prove to them that you didn't do anything wrong when their dumb asses were the ones who misinterpreted the information. And if you're a second late with a payment, they assess a late payment penalty. Guess what, you fuckers, you prove to me that we did something wrong and then I'll pay your goddamn penalties. Why should I have to help the IRS understand what really happened? WTF!? Just for that, I'm assessing a dumbass penalty on the IRS reducing our employer taxes to NOTHING!! What's that? You owe us a billion dollars from last year? Well!!! I guess you owe us a shit load of interest and late refund penalties, huh? No? Well, I guess that's because you're a bunch of tight-fisted greedy sons of bitches. THEY USE MY MONEY ALL FUCKING YEAR LONG AND DON'T PAY ME ONE RED GODDAMN CENT OF INTEREST ON ANY AMOUNT REFUNDED, yet we send in withholdings a day late and they want more money in penalties. FUCK YOU!!!!!

    OK....rant over. :D

I feel your pain man. I deal with Kaiser and Healthcare Recoveries (their billing) all the time for work. They are ridiculous. Whether its a record request or trying to get an appointment with a doctor. For instance, I cant call a secretary of a doctor to make an appointment for my boss to speak with him over the phone about one of our clients. They take the info, screw it up and e-mail it to the office. Then, usually days later I get a call back. Then, I still dont have a direct number so I cant even call a day or so before to confirm the appointment. They arent taking my money but they sure as hell waste my time and make me want to strangle someone.

Yeah, the IRS isn't much different. They won't talk to me about a notice over the phone because I'm not listed as someone holding power of attorney on behalf of my company, but they'll accept and respond to a letter signed by me. Oh and I was the one who transmitted the data that they're saying is fucked up. But they won't talk to me to fix it, or at least fix their understanding of it. They assessed a penalty but no one knows what we're supposed to do to correct whatever the problem is that they assessed the penalty for. Makes me want to kick them right in the face.

Everything they do is screwed up. I'm sure others can tell you better, but I don't believe the IRS was even founded/incorporated in the US.

A murderer will get out of jail before someone who tries tax evasion. There have been cases where people's homes were raided & families put at gun point. Then they put folks in jail and basically, throw away the key prior to their court date & keep delaying or postponing the trial. I guess they like to take one person & make an example out of them. Some of these folks are just normal everyday people.

Some groups like Anderson's Ark are really being or have really been cracked down on by the govt. I hate the IRS. Why in the hell should I be taxed over 20% of my income? The govt. & all of its sleazy politicans just flat out suck.

        I feel better now.

        Tax Evasion Raids

For the record, I'm scared of the bastards and always pay my taxes on time & haven't been in trouble with them, but some folks I'm close to have had to deal with them & pay some hefty fines & restitution. Thank goodness they didn't try to hide information and gave the IRS what they wanted or it could have been BAD.

My company was a first year corporation and it got audited....that was in October of last year that I got the letter....I'm still being audited...so much for the right to a speedy trial.

Bastards must be reading my posts. I shit you not...I received a letter from them a couple of days ago stating that my 2004 taxes weren't filed correctly. If that is the case, why does it take them over 14 months to let you know?

I'm not trying to say I make bundles of money, but my previous employer gave out stock options and would let you purchase stock at a discount. I had to cash all of that when I left which I did in a handful of transactions. I tried to cross all my t's and dot all my eyes, but I may have overlooked something. Anyway, they're saying I owe $7500 plus 1500 in penalties plus 800 in interest.

Luckily, the shares or transaction in question they're treating with a cost basis of zero, and we all know that nothing in life comes free. If I did overlook those, I'm guessing I'll owe roughly half of that.

The reason I'm not sure if I did or didn't claim it at this time is because some of my stuff was less than 1 year old meaning it would be a short term capital gain vs. a long term, and I may have reported it as income. I don't remember all this crap from over 1 year ago plus I had over 70 stock transactions over the year...thank god for turbotax and etrade keeping records.

Whatever the case may be, now I have to get someone to review/represent my case, so they don't just tell me to pay them the whole damn thing. This is not how I wanted to be preparing for the 4th of July.
