  • Ozzy Guillien Gay Slur?

I keep hearing about White Sox manager Ozzy used a gay slur when talking about a reporter. Anyone know what he said?

He was talking about Jay Mariotti. Here is what he said:

"What a piece of [expletive] he is, [expletive] fag."

I can't find the original link or I'd post it. Obviously, the White Sox said they would apologize to anyone who was offended, & Guillen also said that in his country fag didn't have anything to do with sexual preference. Fag means that you won't take an issue up with someone face to face or something along those lines.

Then in the article I read he said that he attends WNBA games & several other gay functions.

Ozzie's "candid, speak-what's-on-my-mind" act is wearing thin. What a buffoon... I really liked him as a player when I was in grad school and we used to drive up to Comiskey to see the Sox, but now he is making a fool of himself and embarrassing himself more and more.

That its just Ozzie being Ozzie is what is wearing thin. You can not be an obnoxious idiot when you are the face of a franchise, yelling at players is cool but calling someone a fag in the press when you know people wont like it, just stupid.

Well, as long as Guillen has been in the game of baseball in the USA, he knows exactly what the word "fag" means in this country. He used it intentionally to be offensive. After a certain point, you can't just plead ignorance because you weren't born here. It certainly wouldn't fly in Venezuela and it shouldn't fly here either. Go back to Venezuela, you prick.

"Tact - Acute sensitivity to what is proper and appropriate in dealing with others, including the ability to speak or act without offending" from dictionary.com.

Speaking your mind without regard for the fact that someone will be offended, that's what really is wearing thin. Some things are offensive no matter who's listening to them. Some call it speaking your mind, others would call it rude and socially ignorant.

Joking around with your friends or people you know is one thing, but calling someone a fag during an interview is extremely unprofessional and shouldn't just be ignored.

                        I agree

I also agree that it's Ozzie being Ozzie, but baseball does have to step in and put him in line, even if Selig will have to fine him once a week or so
