I'm trying to figure something out on this. I use firefox for my browser but it seems that explorer.exe will bog down my computer memory and put my CP usage at 100%. I tried ending this process before but I loss access to most my computer until I rebooted. Does this have anything to do with explorer (which I'm not using) interfearing with other stuff?

I tried the same thing before. It is because Explorer controls a lot of other things as well & is sort of tied into your operating system. A couple things I'd suggest to look into would be:
1) Make sure that you're not using or have loaded a lot of different tool bars such as yahoo, google, msn search, etc. as those will severly impact performance and can be taking up memory & cpu in that explorer task.
2) I'd recommend downloading and running CCCleaner. You can get it free at filehippo.com. It will do similar stuff as adaware, but it will also give you the option to clean your registry as well which can easily get out of whack and can impact performance.
I'm having the same issue with the CPU getting peged, but mine only occurs with Yahoo Messenger. It only occurs when my machine has hibernated and then I come back to it. Luckily, I can terminate and restart that process without any issues.

Explorer is not Internet Explorer.... it is the term for the Windows desktop. If you kill explorer.exe, you will kill the desktop and you will have to reboot.Comment

That's what I was wondering, thanks. I know right now my biggest problem is this is a new laptop and I havn't added RAM yet (only 256 right now). I'm sure it will be a lot better once I do, but I wanted to make sure it wasn't something that getting a memory module wouldn't fix.Comment

It's a new laptop? Doesn't sound right bro. 256 isn't a lot of memory but any Wondows OS can run fine on 256 MB. Adding more memory I doubt will fix your issue. You may want to do a clean install of the OS.Comment

It's not a problem just running windows, it's a problem when I have a couple web pages up and gets real bad when I click on a video or adio link.Comment

I got more memory and most everything is working better now. But one thing that still locks my usage at 100% is my folder for the movies and tv shows I get from torrents.Comment

'Process' shows your processor usage. The memory will help, but it doesn't explain why your processor is getting maxed out on just a few processes. It should be able to handle multiple windows and multiple folders open simultaneously.Comment
