  • well - headed out to AUSTIN

I'm going to austin to work (most of the summer) and I'm looking to find a good gym and a workout bud. Anyone know of a good gym? I've never been to Austin before.

What part of Austin? There's gold's gyms everywhere and they are all pretty good.

I believe its the northern part of Austin - close to routes 360 and 183 (Aboetum blvd or reseach blvd) I'm gonna try to stay close to work

I live just north of Austin off 183 in Cedar Park. I go to Lifetime Fitness. They have like 50 locations in the US & all are pretty much the same. They have really nice equipment. The only knock is they don't have enough staff in the free weight section, so I stick to dumbbells a lot.

I use to work at the gold's on 183 and Burnet. I don't know how far north you want to go, but they have a good set up with more of a hard core atmosphere than a fitness club atmosphere. The cardio and circuit equipment is kind of seperated from a semi-hallway (theres those universal cable machines and the walkway along this "hallway") from the free weights. I actually met Lee Priest there when he was working out one time. He was buddies with the GM.

I knew a couple girls that worked out at that location & they said all of Austin's strippers work out there as well.

Well I don't know if they did then. It was about 4+ years ago since I worked there. It is open 24 hours though, so that may fit there schedule.

Shibby - sounds the gym at 183 and Burnet sounds great - I'll probably give that one a try. I'm tired of "fitness centers" and "health clubs" if you know what I mean. I need to get to a new level and thats a great way to start!

When I go away for work I normally just skip the gym - too damn busy - but this time - I seriously want to continue hittin the gym (and Hitt it HARD!!!) - I usually go 5-6x week

Austin is a ton of fun. It has a great atmosphere because of the Texas Longhorns, and there is some amazing music. I think its the live music capitol of the U.S. On any given night you can find 50 - 100 acts playing live. Should be a great place to spend the summer.
