  • How much should I pay a neighborhood kid for mowing my lawn?

We are going to be on vacation for a few weeks and I was considering getting one of the neighborhood teenagers to mow my lawn every weekend while we are gone. What is a reasonable payment I should consider? I have fairly small lawns in my front yard and backyard - the whole thing takes about 10 minutes for me to do.

How old is he? I'd say $10 per mow is decent.

I am not sure... about 14 or 15 maybe... I was thinking about $10 too... not bad for 10 min of work once a week.

If he does it once a week :) He may do it just before you get back and take all the money.

Yeah... I thought about that, but that's true for a professional lawnmowing company as well. I guess that at some point, I have to trust someone to be honest, otherwise I'll get nothing done.

Where are you going to be going for a few weeks at a time for vacation? That sounds interesting since all of my vacations have only been 1 or 2 weeks at a time...

I would love to just disappear off the map for a while like that....

We are going on a long trip to Singapore and then to India to visit the land of my forefathers - will leave next week and be back by the end of August. :dancingne

My wife and I were born in the old country but both of my kids were born here and I want to make sure they don't forget their family's origins.

$15 bucks is the going rate here in Utah.

I am an assistant scout leader and deal with 14-15 year olds. The majority of their summer jobs are lawn mowing. They all charge 15 bucks. for average sized yards.

My grandma said they used to get a nickel every other time.

You could get away with ten bucks for such a small job if you're supplying the mower and gas....BUT....he'll do the minimum amount of work required. Offer 15 or 20, and it'll get done right. It all depends on how particular you are about your lawn I guess.

Now that is a vacation - someday I would like to do the same thing (only to a different country ;))...

                            Good points....

I can't imagine him edging and weeding for $10 if he even plans on doing that kind of stuff at all......
