I was reading on a football message board how some folks were dealing with not being able to get a certain games while out of town. The solution was a Slingbox made by Sling Media.
In case you're not familiar, it works by being connected to your cable box/DVR, and uploads your cable signal to the Internet. Then you can play your broadcast on any PC that has a SlingPlayer on it.
I went out and got one yesterday, and it is really cool. I was surprised that I was able to hook it up and install it without any issues.
The only issues are:
1) If someone is watching the TV that the cable box is attached to and they change the channel it changes the channel on the sling player or vice versa.
2) Only 1 Slingplayer can be used be at a time with 1 Slingbox...meaning you can't send out your password and everybody watch your broadcast.
3) It isn't wireless, so you may need Ethernet adapters they sell separately ($99) which just plug into your wall. I had to get those because my computer, tv, & router are all in separate rooms.
It has a thing in the setup that creates a slingfinder ID. I copied that down and downloaded the slingplayer software at work, plugged in the slingfinder ID and password and boom...I've been watching the British Open all day long.
Other neat features:
Comes with a infared cable that sends commands to your cable box and allows you to work the box remotely.
Also, the slingplayer software can recognize or you tell it what kind of cable box/DVR you have and it displays your remote on screen so you can access all of your functions.
