I think they should have added more scenes that showed a wider view of the battle. There were too many close up fighting scenes to really understand what they were up against. Watching one guy kill like a dozen guys in battle isn't as surreal as watching 300 guys slaughter 70,000 attackers or watching the Spartans fighting in a circle, surrounded by hundreds of thousands of Persians and fighting their way to Leonidas's body, then fighting their way back to the wall with it. Imagine seeing that on the big screen. I think it would be awesome if they made like a 3 1/2 hour movie and made it follow history to the letter.

And can you believe Iran is acting like this movie was a direct attempt by the US to embarass and belittle them? What a bunch of pussies. It's based on history for fuck sake!!! But, you know what, it's too stupid to even get worked up over.

Agreed. You make a good point that i didnt think about. The movie just did not get across the scale of the battle. It looked more like 30-40 guys taking on a hundred or so.

as far as the iran thing. i dont know anything about it. stopped watching or reading the news months ago. the kind of news we get today is poison. i may read some local news about the jersey NYC area but thats it.

Man that movie fucking sucked!!! I cant believe so many people made such a big deal about it. The effects were cool and all but come on already with the damn computer generated blood droplets, and slow motion. How many fucking motivational speeches can you have in one movie. Then the at the end when he is walking throught the wheat fields um.........gladiator. And Xerses was a giant homo literally, a 7 foot tall fruitcake. Man I wish I could get that 2 hours of my life back. It was like he took all the best parts of braveheart, troy, and gladiator and turned them into one giant pile of shit. The story itself is very interesting but he fucked it all up with goats playing flutes and all the other dumb shit that was thrown in there for no reason. Okay I'm done, why didnt one of you guys warn me?

Negative. It was influenced by his graphic novel style but was inspired and based on history.

300 is a historically-inspired graphic novel series (later collected into a single hardcover issue) written and illustrated by Frank Miller with painted colors by Lynn Varley. The comic is a retelling of the Battle of Thermopylae and the events leading up to it from the perspective of Leonidas of Sparta. 300 was particularly inspired by the 1962 film The 300 Spartans, a movie that Miller watched as a young boy.[1]

Every page of the comic was illustrated as a double-page spread. When the series was gathered into hardcover form, the individual pages were twice as wide as a normal comic. Miller's art style for this project was similar to his Sin City work, although the addition of consistent color is an obvious difference.

300 was initially published as a monthly five-issue comic book series by Dark Horse Comics, the first issue published in May 1998. The issues were titled Honor, Duty, Glory, Combat and Victory. The series won three Eisner Awards in 1999: "Best Limited Series", "Best Writer/Artist" for Frank Miller and "Best Colorist" for Lynn Varley. The work was collected as a hardcover graphic novel in 1999.

The work inspired a movie of the same name, which appeared in theaters in March 2007.

hahah. ITs cool. Its one of the things that its critics didnt understand when the movie first came out. Everyone was saying that it wasnt realistic. Thats because it wasnt supposed to be realistic. It was the movie of a comic book.

It was based on the war but very loosely based.

I just saw the movie and I loved it. I felt the story of a few fighting for the country against impossible odds. Maybe a couple quick views of a large battle would have been nice, but I enjoyed seeing the individual skill of the warriors. I think that went to the heart of what a Spartan is.
