That's just it though... I didn't think he looked 100% either. Cutler deserved to win.Originally posted by babybluesThat's kind of disappointing. I mean, no doubt Jay looked great, but it's disappointing to see someone like Ronnie lose because he wasn't 100%. And I don't like Jay as much anyway.

Cutler came in at the top of his game and Ronnie didn't, you're right. When Ronnie comes in 100% though, nobody beats him. Not even Cutler at 110%. That's why I'm a little disappointed. Jay was kind of winner by default because the best wasn't able to show up at his best.Originally posted by Chadd77That's just it though... I didn't think he looked 100% either. OK... I'm going to admit that I know nothing about the fine points of bodybuilding judging, so I'll ask the dumb questions. The link above has side-by-side comparisons of Jay and Ronnie in various poses. Looking at them:Originally posted by Control
a. In the 1st photo, Ronnie seems to have more vascularity and striations and his abs stand out more than Cutler's.
b. In the 2nd photo comparison, same comment as the first. The individual striations stand out on Ronnie bis and tris... Jay's are smooth...
c. The only photo comp where (to my eyes) Jay is better than Ronnie is in the 5th pair (back pose).
And I think whether Ronnie was 100% or not relative to past years is a red herring, isn't it? The question is - did he bring enough to defeat everyone else at the 2006 Olympia...
Now, I am clearly missing something because nobody here seems to have a problem with the results, so I would appreciate a tutorial on what aspect Jay was better at to warrant a win.

In those pics, Ronnie is the clear winner. Problem is, pics dont tell the real story. Much different in person. Im also pretty sure those pics were taken at pre judging. Cutler very much improved from prejudging to the final. Coleman stayed the same.Originally posted by ScrumhalfOK... I guess I have the same question. Was Ronnie being penalized because he wasn't up to Coleman standards of the past or was Cutler actually better? Because I agree with Scrumhalf, the only poses that I could see Jay beating Ronnie in were the back poses. Ronnie has much better lower body to upper body proportion and better right to left symetry. I'm not disputing the results, but I'm with Scrumhalf. Jay looked a lot smoother in many of those poses....at least to me. Or is that part of the judges criteria? Is each competitor judged on how they used what they have and how well prepared they are or are they judged on how they stack up against the other competitors? Are there any hard fast criteria or is it entirely up to the discretionary judgement of the officials? Again, I couldn't see that Jay was that much better to dethrone the reigning Mr. Olympia.Originally posted by ScrumhalfAnd I think whether Ronnie was 100% or not relative to past years is a red herring, isn't it? And in this picture, Marcus looks like a cartoon.Last edited by babyblues; 10-02-06, 01:00 PM.
