  • Chiropractic Care = Strength Gain ?

Occasionally after I've been working out for a couple of months, my upper back and neck start getting sore. I usually try and go see a chiropractor once a month or so because it seems to help me remain pain free.

Well, my chiropractor moved to a new location, so I skipped chiropractic care for 4 months. Sure enough my neck and back flared up. To make matters worse I got my girlfriend to give me a massage while she was sitting on my back. After she got up and started to get up, I had a pain shoot through my body from my lower back and it took me a good 10 minutes to even get up.

After a couple of days the pain started to go away, but I still made a visit to the chiropractor. I've been one time the past two weeks on Thursdays and all of the sudden on Saturday & Sunday workouts I've been a lot stronger.

The only thing I can think is that my body being out of alignment was causing my muscles to not fire properly or something. Does this make sense to anyone or has anyone experienced this before?

Yes - what you said is exactly true. When your back/neck is out of alignment it affects everything else. I see a chiropractor too and it makes a HUGE difference.

Yup, that's right. You can't always feel a pinched nerve either. Nerves run down through your spine as we all know, but what we don't stop to think about is that those nerves branch off and run between vertebrae to our muscles and organs and such. If something is out of alignment and a nerve is pinched or impaired than our organs can even suffer in time.

Glad to hear it is noticeable for others as well.

I'll definitely keep going because I don't want my organ to quit functioning anytime soon.

Quack, quack, quack, quack!!!!! I know some people swear that chiro's help. I think it's all "smoke and mirrors". 95% of ALL healing is based on faith, however, so if you think it works, it probably does. Mind over matter. I still love you though, lol. BB (Dad)

Blah, blah, blah...you're probably right though, readjusting vertabrae that are pinching or putting pressure on nerves would probably not do anything.

I disagree with you (nothing usual...I know :nerdnew: ). The reason I say this is that the thought hadn't even crossed my mind to link the two together until after I had worked out.

I had to think back about the things I had done the past couple of days to see what I could attribute to being stronger & that was the only thing I had done differently.

You've know how I workout and you know my strength levels. You know that I just can't tack on 20 lbs on the bench onto a weight I struggled to do 6x the prior week and all of the sudden do the heavier weight for 9 reps. That is what I did...not only that, but the weight I did for 6 reps the week before, I did it for 10 followed by another set plus 10 lbs added for 10 followed by another set plus 10 more lbs for 9 reps.

Anyway, I know it is your nature to stick to "tried and true" approaches, not think outside the box in issues like this & be a little close minded. However, for me (and I believe many others), it has improved my quality of life.

I believed that it may not be effective before I tried it, but that is where our differences lie. I was willing to give it a shot & then rule on it vs. just saying it is hogwash.

Is this just an arbitrary figure or do you have something to back it up?

I never stated any figures. However, I can go off of personal experience as well as the medical science pertaining to chiropractic practice. If you want more look it up wise ass.

I'm in chiro school right now and we're being taught that your spine can be misaligned for a long time before you feel pain. My advice, find a reputable chiropractor and go for regular check ups.

                            Hey Bonebreaker,
How come when a chiropractor adjusts his kids spine right after birth, that kid ususally doesn't ever get sick even without vaccines.

Hey Wolfhound...good luck with your livelihood. My friend informed me that it looks like legislation is being worked on to give Physical Therapists the ability to do adjustments. I'm sure you're already aware of this & it looks like it is going to be a state by state issue for a little while.

I'm guessing most will take the route he is considering which is going back to school to get his masters and certification in Physical Therapy and then opening a wellness clinic. Anyway...best of luck!
