This should shake the top ten up a bit. If USC is still ranked in the top 5, then there won't be any faith in the system.

I'm pretty sure they'll fall out of the top 5 but not much farther...
I'm sure I sound biased here but the SEC deserves a playoff system at the national level simply because pretty much anyone down here can win on any given Saturday....
I know other conferences probably think the same thing about their own teams but the SEC rivalries just kill each other year after year and it ruins the W/L ratio (especially when a good majority of them are weighted in the top 25)......

I can agree with that. But I also believe top teams like Texas may get snuffed at times because the rest of the confrence isn't up to there level. Again just another reason a playoff system is needed. Just like the Colts won't be held back simply because their division can't step up to the level.

C'mon Shibby...You know Texas isn't really that good anyway. Texas is okay in my book, but Texas was manhandled by Ohio St., should've lost to Nebraska, and could've easily been beaten at Texas Tech.Originally posted by ShibbyI can agree with that. However, I whole heartedly agree that a 8 or 16 game playoff system would be great for everyone involved. I think you take the other 30 to 40 teams and have them play in the other bowls that we're accustomed to having. Also, each playoff game could have some bowl name or location, so the NCAA wouldn't whine and bitch about losing money because we know that is the root of the whole problem.

So I suppose you think the Ind Colts aren't really that good, since they barely beat the Giants, Jags, Jets, Titans and Broncos? I will give Ohio state credit that they were much more prepared for the Game against Texas, but if they played them now it would be much different. Texas has continued to improve and I also wouldn't call a 24-7 game being manhandled.

Yea, there is something about a loss this late in the season that can really kill the energy. With so much BCS focus, when you are out of it, any other bowl game just isn't motivation enough. I know after Texas winning the BCS last year, anything less this year just seems boring. We need a lot of outside help to get into it this year.

You're right...I don't think the Colts are that great. They have a great QB who is despise watching play because of all his audibles, but he is good. However, they'll find a way to blow it down the stretch just like they have the last several years. A playoff system allows them to do that vs. being a shoe-in for the superbowl.Originally posted by ShibbySo I suppose you think the Ind Colts aren't really that good, since they barely beat the Giants, Jags, Jets, Titans and Broncos? I think Ohio St. being better prepared was a testament to Tressell. He has done very, very well at Youngstown St. and Ohio St. I've always thought you'll not find a better recruiter than Mack Brown, but as far as coaching goes, I don't see him as that great. His coordinators and strength coach are awesome which is the majority of the battle in putting the right people under you, so kudos to him for having the right people.
A playoff system would be great because then we'd get to see more big time 1 vs. 2 out of conference matchups between teams like Texas & Ohio St. more often. With the way it is now if you lose early out of conference (in for that matter), you play catch up the whole season, so you can't blame big programs for avoiding each other.
Wouldn't it be nice if you did lose to a top 5 team or big conference opponent that you'd know you'd still be in a playoff with a chance? Also, by playing the cream of the crop, you'll know what areas you need to address throughout the season and can legitimately improve. I'm sure the loss to Ohio St. has made Texas a better team and probably even helped in the comeback against Texas Tech.
Also, since I'm talking about Texas, I'll open myself up and say that I'm not an Ohio St. fan. I took my gf because that is her team. Cringe...I like the UNC Tar Heels  who've been horrible since Brown left.

It would be great but let's be realistic here. How can you expect football teams to turn around and play as many games in a week as a basketball team does or a baseball team? The downtime they need to recover and heal just won't allow it. There is a reason they have so many days between games, ya know? If you are gonna give them that break between games for the playoffs then you are talking about extending the football season as well and I don't think that is going to happen.Originally posted by ShibbyAnd for the other bowls, it can be like NCAA basketball. You can have the BCS playoffs (March Madness) and then the other bowls playoffs (NIT tournaments)

If you did an 8 team playoff, that would just be 3 more games. A regular season w/11 games + 3 playoff games would be 14 which isn't far off the 11 or 12 now + 1. One round or game a week starting in mid-december could still culminate on the first Tuesday night in January between the final two.Originally posted by bad14uIt would be great but let's be realistic here. I don't think Shibby was meaning multiple games in a week.
