I am going to have an ultrasound done next week to verify if it is a hernia or not, but the doc was pretty certain it is. It isn't too big/protruding, but he said they will still have to perform surgery. And from what I hear, the down time can be quite long. I was wondering though, what is the best thing I can do to keep as much of my size/strength as possible. As soon as I am mobile I plan on going to the gym and possibly just lifting extremely light weight for lots of reps. Is that the best thing to do, or does anyone know of any excercies I could do that wouldn't really aggrovate it? Certain excerises to stay away from for awhile, other than deads n squats? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

I had double inguinal hernia repair done years ago. I took a year off from the gym just to be safe, but I felt pretty much back to normal in three weeks or so. Alot of people are out for a month or more. It depends on the person. My doctor told me that I should be able to resume normal activity as long as I didn't go overboard and overexert myself. That's the point of the repair, to get you back to normal. Honestly, if I were you, I would take a good 2 to 3 months off. If you don't agree, talk to me after the surgery, you'll agree then. The first time you sneeze or cough, you'll understand. Good luck.

That is what I tried to tell him. After I had mine, mother of god, laughing, sneezing, coughing, or even lifting my arm made me feel like i just tore my kidney lol.

Gonna be hard to watch the gains go, but I guess I have to accept that there is no way around it. Thanks for the help.

The ultrasound verified I do have one, and am going under the knife this Friday. The doc said I won't be able to lift anything over 20 lbs for 6 weeks, so I asked him if it would be alright if I worked out with maybe a 10 lb weight for lots of reps during this time and he said yes, and that machines would probably be best. I think I am gonna wait about 2-3 weeks before trying it out, but as of right now I plan on giving it a shot. I just wanted to get some feedback and see what you all think about that.

put all your effort into your diet and hopefully you can minimize your losses and not put on any excess weight. Good luck

stay positive bro. think of it as giving your body a break for awhile. when you do start training again. you will grow like a weed.

That was a question I had actually. Once you get a certain size, and then have time off like I am going to have, and you lose some size, being that you have already been there before, is it easier to gain and get back up to where you were? Also, what about hitting the bag a little, or does that put strain on the core?

By the way, thanks for the support guys.

I'd think hitting the back would be worse, it's high-impact to your core which absorbs the return of the force.
