Vaccination for HPV (or flu, hepatitis, ect.) should be by choice for most people....although I think you'd have to be nuts not to protect yourself from as many things as possible. However, I think they should be mandatory for workers in the healthcare field, law enforcement, firefighting, ect...those that come into contact with many people and have a higher risk for infection/infecting due to the nature of their work.

I think if it's something that can be spread, then it should be made mandatory due to all the lazy negligent people that don't care and would be out spreading it. Kind of like sexually transmitted diseases and HIV. Some people just don't care if they spread it or not.

If it is a life long vaccine, just administer it with all of the other childhood immunizations that are required prior to starting school. Then it doesn't have the moral/ethical dilemma attached to it with a teenage girl getting it. A teenager will want to know what the shot is for while a little girl or baby is just going to think it sucks having to get these shots.

If it is like the flu vaccine which is only good for a limited time, then I kind of think it is an individual decision. Either way, a large % of women have HPV...men too...just not dangerous to men (typically), so probably better to be safe than sorry.

I just hate hearing how so many people think getting the shot is going to make someone promiscuous.

Too bad they dont' have a cure for HPV. The vaccine is a start, but what about all of the millions of people out there who have HPV? If you read the statistics, millions of people have HPV and just never know it. It is a virus and most people's immune system will suppress the strains. There are many different strains of HPV, some are more aggressive than others, some cause genital warts, some can lead to cancer. A vaccine is a start in the right direction, but it is aimed generally at women and only the strains that cause cancer. I have a friend who was exposed to HPV and his immune system did not suppress the HPV and it led to genital warts. I was the only person he confided in and told, but it took quite the psychological toll on him. He ended up having laser surgery and everything removed twice and finally after 3 years of fighting it, his immune system took back over. Now if there was a shot that would fix that, I would be impressed. It is a common problem in men and women. I read up on this one time because I thought I had signs of HPV, but lucked out and did not have it. There is a good website out there for this if anyone is curious. HPVsupport.com I read a post on there one time that was quoted out of an article, and it stated that if you had slept with more than 5 partners without protection, you probably had HPV. HPV can not only be transmitted from intercouse, but can be transmitted by touch.

Until smoking and drinking is controlled more, I don't see how they can make the vaccine mandatory.

Something else that is interesting is about a show my wife was watching on TV regarding the Plague and Aids. Basically the show was about how certain people during the Plague that should have received never did. Now after some research they have found some blood transfusion and skin graph patients, from Aids donor infected tissue and blood, don't have HIV traces. They did some test and found a specific cell mutation in these people that made there body resistant to the virus. So there is some research going on now in the theory (my description of the theory) of, if you can't go through it, go around it. The thought of trying to mutate the cells of those that are infected with HIV or Aids.
