  • Cellphone Woooes

I have Alltel for a cell phone provider.

Model of phone is a Kyocera Candid.

I have had it for a year now and unfortunately signed up for a 2 year contract.

Local area works good, but as soon as I get outside of that, my quality of service really goes down. If I'm around a decent size city where there is a tower, it works fine.

My uncles have Alltel back home and they get good service on their Razor phones. Last weekend I was visiting with my uncles and I asked to look at their phones. Both had 3 or 4 bars of digital service and I was on one bar analog. That pisses me off.

I have called alltel and complained and complained, but they tell me there is nothing they can do. If I was withing 90 days of my contract expiring, they could renew it and I could get a discounted phone. I took my phone in for warranty repair a month ago and they could find nothing wrong.

I've been scrounging ebay for a used Alltel Razor phone, but haven't ran across any good deals.

Does anyone have an old Alltel Razor cell phone that they'd be interested in selling?

Anyone know of a place to get good buys on refurbished phones?

Alltel wants 360$ for a Razor outright. My early termination fee is only 200$ so it doesn't make much sense to drop that kind of change if you are frustrated with the service. From here on out, I will only go with Cingular.

Ideas/suggestions (possibly on how to get out of my contract without getting slammed for 200$) would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

I have Cingular now (in Florida) and the service is decent (I do drop calls more than I would prefer). However, when I go back to PA to visit my family...forget it..I usually just turn off my phone because I almost never get service. From my experience w/traveling and using different providers. I would say that Verizon has the best service and greatest coverage area. Them or Nextel. Nextel is more expensive, but when I had them for work they were the only provider that I could get service 2 stories underground. That's impressive!!!

cell service is simple whoever has the most cell towers wins. that would be Verizon by a large margin. they bought up everyone in the 80s

I would try Ebay or just through someone looking to get rid of one....
