I don't know much about it yet - but they're saying it's the worst massacre (school I assume) in US history. A white male has shot at least 40 people at Virginia Tech - he is dead as well - they aren't yet sure if he killed himself or police killed him. Just another fked up individual in our society :thumbsdow

What a shame! Don't understand why he couldn't have just taken his own life. Why kill innocent people?? I just don't understand. Thoughts and prayers go out to all the victims friends and families. -

A gunman pumped shots into a dormitory and classrooms at a US university today, killing 32 people in the worst mass shooting in US history, authorities said.
The unidentified gunman also died, but police said it was unclear if he took his own life or was killed by police.
Police said most of the victims died in dormitories after the gunman opened fire in two locations, two hours apart, at Virginia Tech University, about 425 kilometres southwest of Washington DC
University president Charles Steger confirmed 33 people were dead, including the gunman, and 15 injured.
Details are emerging that an emergency 911 call was made after shots were fired on the campus about 7.15am but campus police treated the initial shooting as an isolated incident and did not close the school.
It appears many students died in the second shooting, about 9am.
The rampage by what police believed was a lone gunman took place in two separate areas, first at a dormitory as students had begun criss-crossing the sprawling campus for morning classes, and then about two hours later at an engineering and science less than a kilometre away.
The attacks sparked panic and chaos.
Witnesses told CNN that some students were hurt jumping out the windows of the classroom building to escape the gunfire.
"This is a tragedy of monumental proportions,'' Virginia Tech president Charles Steger told reporters.
Virginia Tech campus police chief Wendell Finchum said the suspected gunman was dead and that police were trying to determine whether he killed himself or was shot by officers.
"At this time we believe it's only one gunman,'' he said. Officials did not have a motive for the attack and did not release the identity of the suspected gunman.
Students told CNN there had been several bomb threats at the campus in recent weeks. Two of the threats were aimed at the university's science and engineering school.
US President George Bush said the nation was "shocked and saddened".
In a student video shot on mobile phone 27 shots could be heard in less than a minute.
Student Michael O'Brien told Fox News he was walking across the school's drill field when he heard a gunshot and saw students scrambling out of the building.
"You could see students carrying what looked like bodies out of Norris Hall (the engineering building) and there were ambulances out there that drove down to pick them up and sped off towards the hospital."Comment

From what my friend told me and what the news has posted there was a single victim in the dorm, then the student went to Norris and had people line up face down and began shooting. He was apparently looking for his girlfriend or something stupid like that.

How sad & bizarre. They're now saying that the two shootings may not be related.
The first one does sound like a domestic dispute where a guy killed his girlfriend and then left campus. That is why they didn't shut down classes, and I think they're currently looking for that guy.
The second incident may be totally separate. They've had a couple of bomb threats in the past couple of weeks, so I wonder if someone saw a window of opportunity with everything that was happening on the other side of campus.

Im with Chadd on this one, why couldnt he have just taken his own life. This world is full of the worst kind who shouldnt even deserve to live.

A girl and an advisor were killed in the first building - a dorm. The other students were killed at Norris Hall. I live in VA and I've only heard students say he walked in and shot the professor first, then just started firing away - and then killing himself. They also said there had been some bomb scares and that it could have been him seeing how their safety procedures were played out. Regardless - it's very tragic and the community is extremely shaken.

The man that killed the 30 people in Norris Hall was a 23 year old South Korean - he was a Senior at Virginia Tech.Comment

Gun laws need to change. Needs to be much harder to get a gun. This guy bought the guns and ammo just a few days ago without any hassle.Comment
