Wow, Bouncer, sorry to hear that. Were you close to him? I feel for you bro.

I heard about this on the news in Philly waiting to fly home yesterday. How horrible. I don't think that the authorities should release the name of the gunman. That way that fucker will have died in obscurity. I think back to when I was in college and I can't even imagine how I would have felt if something like that had happened. The people who saw it happen will never forget that. Their lives are changed forever. Goodness, how does someone get to the point they want to do something like that?

In a college/school setting people want and need to know who is responsible for this tragedy. It was a fellow student - they need to know that he can't hurt anyone else because he's gone....

At the same time, most mass shootings happen because the gunman wanted it to be noticed. Don't give it to him. The names Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold will be forever remembered for the Columbine shootings. That's exactly what they wanted. They wanted to be remembered as the greatest mass murderers in history. Fucking sick. They're even in Wickipedia for crying out loud. They got exactly what they wanted. They didn't give a shit if they lived or not. In fact, they planned to die. They planned to kill themselves in the end. Don't give this worthless piece of trash even one second of airtime. If names were just swept under the rug and never remembered and their picture never saw the light of day, do you think people would do stuff like this so often? They do it for more than fame, they do it for infamy. Don't give it to them. People don't just get pissed and start shooting. And those who do usually have specific targets and rarely do they shoot themselves. Those who start shooting random people want to be noticed for it. They're sending a message, making a point that can't be ignored. Killing themselves isn't an afterthought. It happens too often to be a coincidence.

Here is a website that describes what some of the leading psycologists and mental health experts believe is the reason Harris and Klebold did what they did. Doesn't mean that every school shooting is exactly like Columbine, but there sure seem to be alot of them modeled after it.

I'm not trying to insult anyone, but don't be so naive.

I understand why you think that way - and I'm certainly NOT naive. I'm only saying I don't think your idea would really ever work. Just because YOU don't want these psychos getting any fame does not mean that people don't deserve to know who killed their friends and/or family.....

I'm trying to keep this discussion objective and constructive. Making pointed statements about ME does nothing to further the discussion. Please don't assume the comment about being naive was directed only toward you. Did you actually read any of the article?

I understand this is a touchy subject, but what I want has nothing to do with it. And how do you know that it won't help, even just a little? People will come after this who will do the same thing, probably for the same reason, wanting the same outcome. How often do we play right into their hands? How much longer are we going to pave the way for those who come behind? OK, let the friends and families know who the guy was, but don't let the media blow this thing up. Our government certainly has the ability to confuse and confound other issues, why not actually use that for something constructive, like helping to stop these horrific shootings.

If not for the infamy of mass murder, Oklahoma City and Columbine would never have happened. These events shook the entire nation. A statement can't have a more devestating effect than that. Think about it. Why would someone do something like that and kill themselves later if they knew no one would ever hear of it? Like I said, they're making a statement that they know won't be ignored. I'm not saying I have the answers, but you can't ignore this as a motive for these actions. And something has to be done about it.

I was only saying *I* don't *think* it will work - not that I know it won't. And the reason I say that is because of the media. I completely agree that the victims should be left to grieve at their loss and we shouldn't give two shits about the jackass that caused it - however there is ALWAYS someone "talking" about it, wanting to write a book, sell a movie, etc.

Well, than it's sad that people motivated by greed would glorify stuff like this, making it easier for others to copy. Sometimes this country's appalling lack of scruples makes me sick.

I am sure there are psychopaths in every country but only in the US do them seem to go off the edge with monotonous regularity. As Americans, we need to look at ourselves and have an honest debate about what is different about our country or our culture that causes this.

It appears Cho waited the full month before buying the Walther, suggesting he didn't just snap."

I wish this fucker wouldn't have taken his own life and he would have gotten what he really deserved. My heart and prayers go out to everyone involved in this, those who died, students involved, families involved, and all the student and people around the country affected by this. Just graduating not long ago, I can't imagine how I would've felt of been affected by something like this. The psychological battle these students will have to face will be extremely difficult. I don't know if I would even feel safe going to class after something like this or at least I'd be worried about it.

May God help all those affected by this and bring some kind of comfort to them all. And I agree, it should not be easy for someone to get a gun and the fact that someone not from this country can just buy a gun/no questions asked, well I feel real safe will all the terrorists around the world who could turn the U.S. into Iraq with random shootings whenever they would feel like it. Something has to change!
