3 guys order a pizza. The cost is $30 and each of the guys pay $10. When the delivery guy gets back to the store, the manager notices there was an over charge and that the pizza was only suppose to cost $25. The manager gives the driver 5 one dollar bills to take back to the guys. The driver isn't sure how to split the $5 among the three guys, so he keeps 2 of them since he didn't get a tip before. If each of the guys are getting back $1 dollar then they each payed $9. If each guy payed nine dollars and the driver kept 2 dollars, where's the extra dollar?

That doesn't make sense. They didn't pay $9 each. Between the 3 of them they spent $28 (excluding the tip) so you would just divide 28/3 meaning they actually spent $9.33 each.

That would mean they didn't each get a dollar back...If they paid 10 each, got one back each, that's only 9 paid each.

That's including the dollar they got back.

              30-5= 25

              25/3= 8.33

              8.33 + 1 = 9.33

              9.33 x 3 = 28 (rounded)

              28 + 2 = 30

That's it buddy. The whole "they each paid $9'' is just in there to confuse you. Looks like it worked, lol.

Yea, cause you can just round pieces of a dollar bill.

I know, but he's being a wise ass so I want to see if he has something different.

There is no extra dollar, I think there might be a typo in the way it was written that I read, but basically the guys paid $27 including the tip. $25 for the pizza and $2 for the tip.

The answer is the money is in some off shores bank account. Thats how skimming off the top works....

OK, I've seen this before and here is the answer.

The two dollars in the drivers hand are part of the combined 27 dollars that the three guys paid, not in addition to it. The original 30 minus the 3 that he gave back to them is 27 which comes out to 9 apiece. He kept 2 for himself so that brings the total for the pizza to 25 with a tip of 2. Look at it this way: They each paid 8.33 apiece for the pizza (25) and .67 apiece for the guy's tip (2), which means they each paid 9 apiece for pizza and tip combined (27).
