what you say is true but one thing bothers me about that situation. the media is making him out to be a bigger hero then the other soldiers that have died. to me, this is sad. people want to believe that he left the NFL to go and defend our country. while this is true, there is one thing that people forget. he was doing what he wanted to do. he wanted to be in the military and he wanted to fight in war. if he didnt, he would have stayed in the NFL. he wasn't forced. while he is a hero, he is no bigger hero then any of the other soldiers.Originally posted by FitnessBratLove the avatar - what a hero :usa: .....

True, but i've noticed alot about the people who do join the military, did it because they have nothing else going for them. I went through high school and there were a ton of people being fuckups and screwing around cause they knew the military was a way out. There are a lot of patriots out there though, but the point remains, he was an athlete that gets paid millions to play football. That's a frickin fun job. He gave it all up to go get shot at. Give that money to anyone else and I really can't see anyone who would drop it all and join the military. Why is he the only pro athlete that has done this?Originally posted by THE BOUNCERwhat you say is true but one thing bothers me about that situation. the media is making him out to be a bigger hero then the other soldiers that have died. to me, this is sad. people want to believe that he left the NFL to go and defend our country. while this is true, there is one thing that people forget. he was doing what he wanted to do. he wanted to be in the military and he wanted to fight in war. if he didnt, he would have stayed in the NFL. he wasn't forced. while he is a hero, he is no bigger hero then any of the other soldiers.

I agree with everything you've written, but one of the things that separates him from the majority of the people in the military is the fact that he did it because he wanted to and not because he had to due to lack of options. Most people in the miltary are not there because they are sincere patriots and they are doing what they dreamed of but because it's an avenue of opportunity. I don't think this makes him any more of a hero than the rest, but I do find it very inspiring and noble. Regardless, of the reason(s) that any of our soldiers signed up for the fact is that they are now fighting for our country and their lives and for that they have ALL of my respect!Originally posted by THE BOUNCERwhat you say is true but one thing bothers me about that situation. the media is making him out to be a bigger hero then the other soldiers that have died. to me, this is sad. people want to believe that he left the NFL to go and defend our country. while this is true, there is one thing that people forget. he was doing what he wanted to do. he wanted to be in the military and he wanted to fight in war. if he didnt, he would have stayed in the NFL. he wasn't forced. while he is a hero, he is no bigger hero then any of the other soldiers.
