The vacation was Ghetto Fabulous! The weather was almost too hot...90's and sunny. The resort was just the right size. They actually have a side for Americans, and another side for the Europeans. As for the food, well....it's Mexico. Breakfast was always good, and the ala carte restaurants were good, but I stuck to the safe stuff.

But get this. We went for a friends wedding, right? Well they all stayed at the Iberostar Lindo which was $3200 for 2 for a week. Now, you all know how much I like to travel, so we decided we would go, and stay at a less expensive resort.

Now, we took a taxi for the rehearsal dinner (which started with a catamaran ride :) ), and the wedding (the douche bad driver F-ed us on the cost, buit oh well), which were both at the Iberostar. We had dinner there both nights. Now, if I'm paying $3200, I'm expecting great food, great serviceand a great resort....especiallly if it's deemed a 5 star resort

      1. The food was equal in quality, if not worse on some items than the food at our resort.
      2. The grounds were pretty neat, but the there are like 4 other Iberostar resorts all in the same complex, so the compound is really enormous. So enormous you have to take a golf cart almost anywhere...which to me is not relaxing and stress free if I'm always looking for a ride back to my room.
      3. My friends who stayed at the Iberostar had problems with the AC going out, non flushing toilets, but most of all the service. In total, the 60+ guests brought in $100k to that resort, and from what I understand the staff was not accomodating in many instances.

Moral of the story- just because it's expensive doesn't mean it's any better

Amen to that babe, so many people look for the most expensive places and think just because they are paying top dollar that they will get top dollar service. I always check consumer reviews on places and don't think of price as the major decision maker.

I agree with that! When we go on vacation we always try to find that line between value and a good time. When you get up to the higher costs, I have found that 9 times out of 10 that extra grand or 2 isn't worth it. Sometimes you get what you pay for and sometimes not. I always read tons of reviews of the hotels or cruises before we go. Its always the people that pay for the most expensive room and services that seem to give negative reviews. The people that go with the basic services seem to have a better time.

Yep. Middle of the road, or a bit better than middle is what we go for as well. And I'm an avid user of tripadvisor.com. They have every resort you can imagine, all with reviews. I mean, we don't need a big extravagant room because who spends their time in a room on vacation? Secondly, when you pay that extra grand, you go in expecting a 5 star resort. So every time you are let down, or something is not up to par, that really has in impact.

I think it makes people feel like they could've handed over half the money, gotten kicked in the nuts, and then called it a day.
