Question for the car experts here.. dashboard scratch..

Sana got in the passenger side the other day at Costco with her hands full and the key hit the front of the dash right above the glove box. Put about an inch long scratch into the dash. Not deep at all but no matter what I do, I cant seem to make the damn thing go away. Our interior is black.

Is there anything the dealership service can do for me with a scratch like that? I called them but they are closed at this time and wont be open again until Monday. It is so minor and yet such a pain in the ass. Anyone know if I can get some kind of vinyl stain or dye or something that will remove the scratch? Does the dealership carry products like this?

What kind of material is it? Vinyl? hard plastic? how big is the piece thats scratched?

vinyl. the piece that is scratched runs all the way across the whole dash. the scratch itself is about an inch long.

also just to be clear, the scratch cant even be felt with a finger nail. it is simply the color that is visible. its a white scratch mark on the black dash. i put on some armor all, didn't do shit. tried rubbing it off with my finger, didn't do anything. the only thing that seems to make it better believe it or not is regular hand lotion. the scratch can still be seen though so I would like to get rid of it all together.

if i cant fix it, you guys think the dealership will be able to?

This may sound goofy, but I have used shoe paste wax before, like Kiwi, (black color of course in this case), and it worked pretty well. Since you have put some lotion on it, you might want to use a little alcohol on a cotton swab first to get rid of any residue. Let the area dry, then just apply a small amount of the wax on a clean lint free cloth, rub it in good, and buff it off with another clean cloth. I have also used brown paste wax on small furniture scratches and that worked pretty good too. MAKE SURE YOU USE THE PASTE WAX, LIQUID POLISH WILL MAKE A MESS. I'm sure it will help quite a bit, but if it's not the look you want, the polish won't hurt anything and it's easy to do. If you're still not satisfied, check out some automotive upholstery shops in your area. The dealer might have something, but my best bet would be the upholstery shop. BB
