I just watched an episode of it and I'm not sure what to think. Every time one of the doctors said they feel sorry for the patient. The docs put them on a liquid diet as part of the pre-op for gastric bypass. These people act like it's the worse thing to ever happen to them. Then both the patients looking to get the surgery talked about needing the surgery to help them. That they know they could get the weight off with the assistance of the surgery, but... if they don't get the surgery, it's too difficult and they can't handle changing their eating habits. They all seem to convince themselves that the surgery will give them the motivation needed. One of the patients on the episode couldn't even stick to the liquid diet for a short period time to get the insurance to approve the surgery. I don't get why it is that they can convince themselves that the surgery will help, that they can't convince themselves to get healthy without the surgery. Would these people make the changes if they were told the surgery was done but it really wasn't?

I would say most of these people need a competent therapist not a diet...its not glandular :). its mental. how many of us eat for comfort. I do...but the extreme examples in our society are everywhere now. I think most of the people eat because of boredom too I see them everyday at work and its sick. these are the same people on welfare to.
