Before I ask this question I want to point out that I do not hate any group of people. If you are a cool person I will like you regardless of where you come from.

With that said, I have to ask this question. Do these people take showers? I don't want to stereotype but everytime I run into an Indian person at the store or wherever, they stink to high hell.

Can someone explain this to me. Is it against their religion to be clean or what?

in the year that i was in Raleigh, i dont think i saw a single Indian. lol

Actually, Indians are very fastidious about taking a shower (or a bath, since many places in India don't have running water) in the morning. That's part of the religious culture in India.

The problem is sweat - you can take a shower but two hours later you will stink if you don't use deodorants And there is no concept of deodorants in India, so if they people you encounter are 1st generation immigrants, they probably don't use any.

I'd seriously doubt you'll find any American-born Indians would smell any different from Americans of any other race.

Same way with some other spices and even fish - that whole "you are what you eat" thing holds true for me through and through :eek:....

the Indians here in jersey are right off the boat so to speak. most cannot speak English, the women wear these bright colored things that look like a bunch of bed sheets wrapped around them, even if it is 90 degrees outside. the men wear these things that look like dresses. i thought this one guy was a fag for wearing a dress but sana corrected me and told me what they were called, but i forget.

i know America was built my foreigners and immigrants but fuck man, its like these people want to bring their entire culture here and not adapt to American culture at all. why not just stay in India if they love it so much..

I can imagine the original american indians saying that about the pilgrims and their weird looking fashion.

Indians, with regard to dress, have been dealing with really hot weather for eternity, those dress like things are way cooler than pants or shorts. If you look at fashion in the middle east, it is remarkably simmilar. Not that I'd dress like that, but it may just be what they're comfortable in. I also can't imagine immigrating to the US from India is cheap, buying a new wardrobe might not be first on the priority list.

It is very hard for older people to change their ways - cut them some slack, bro. I could say the same thing about some Russian babushkas that I see walking around here in the PNW with their handkerchiefs over their heads.

And Indians are probably the most well-integrated immigrant group out there. Over 2/3rd of Indians have master's degrees and have the highest per capita income of any ethnic group. 2nd generation immigrants completely adopt American culture/habits, etc. and are essentially indistinguishable from the rest of the population.

I wouldn't bash 1st generation immigrants from a non-Western European culture for being somewhat different.

Being of Indian origin, I'm definitely not proud of that.

You've got to remember that India is a country of 1 billion people of which over 85% live in villages. The modern stuff that one reads about - the software companies, the outsourcing of jobs from the West, etc. - all that's just less than a percent of the population. The vast majority of people are totally untouched by the information age. So, old practices, beliefs, etc. still persist. It's like people in rural China believing that rhino horn or tiger's claws or bear's gall bladders have medicinal or aphrodisiac properties. Or female circumcision in Africa ... it takes time for this stuff to change.

I'm not offering excuses for this stuff which clearly don't have any place in civilized society, just pointing out the circumstances that sometimes people in the West don't always get to see.
