Microsoft only has the HD-DVD format. They wouldn't put out a blu-ray version, that is headed up by Sony and that would be lame of they to support their biggest competition.

The Elite does not come with the HD-DVD drive, you actually have to purchase it separately for something like 200 dollars. Its a fucking rip-off.

Hence the concept of an ADD ON, people. Word is that Microsoft would offer a blu-ray PERIPHERAL if HD-DVD loses the format war. I guess I was jumping the gun and didn't explain myself very well.

Besides, 5 years from now, it will be some other new gaming system and this discussion will be irrelevant. Like Bouncer already said, DVDs already have one foot in the grave anyway, so what's the point. Movies will all be digital some day anyway.

Gaming systems and games come and go. That's the way it goes with technology. You can't stay on top forever. Microsoft and Sony will always be around and they will always be in the thick of it. And there will always be people that love PS who think Xbox is shit and there will always be people who love Xbox who think PS is shit. There just aren't any PS games that interest me. I only play Halo (badly, I might add) and some racing games. I don't like sports games at all.

Wow not too shabby. It looks like GOW, but I can't tell if it is better or worse because of the terrible quality of the youtube link. Might be worth the checking out.

Sony's $100 price cut is only temporary. The new 80GB model comes out in August and it's back to $599. The 60GB stock will be gone in the next few months.

                  Wii could top record-holding PS2

                  http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/07/13/e...eut/index.html

                  # Nintendo's Wii could become the biggest hit in the video game industry
                  # The Wii has outsold the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 since its November launch
                  # Nintendo sold 5.8 million units of the Wii by March 2007
                  # Sony announced a $100 price cut of its PlayStation 3 on Monday

SANTA MONICA, California (Reuters) -- Sales of Nintendo's quirky Wii video game machine could top the legendary PlayStation 2, making it the biggest hit in the industry's history, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata said on Thursday.

Nintendo Co. Ltd. sped past Sony Corp. in market capitalization last month to become one of the 10 most valuable companies in Japan.

Iwata in an interview also played down the threat to Nintendo's business of a price cut in Sony's PlayStation 3 and the introduction of a thinner PlayStation Portable.

The Wii has outsold Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 and Sony's PlayStation 3 monthly since its November launch, helped by its relatively affordable $250 price tag and a motion-sensing controller that can be swung like a bat, for instance.

Instead of offering lifelike graphics to appeal to hard-core gamers, who are mostly men, Nintendo has appealed to an audience including women and the elderly with innovative but easy-to-play games.

"Sony's PS2 sales of 100 million units is an extraordinary number that our home game console business has not achieved," Iwata said.

"But if we can make our bid to expand the gaming population a continued success, we could exceed that," he told Reuters.

Sony has shipped more than 120 million units of the PS2, helping the Tokyo-based electronics and entertainment conglomerate dominate the $30 billion global video game industry over the past decade.

Nintendo's strategy to entice new players into the video game market has so far proved a smashing success: its DS portable and the Wii console are flying off store shelves.
                  Don't Miss

                  * Sony slashes PS3 price tag by $100
                  * Wii demand still outpaces supply
                  * Little Addictions

Nintendo sold 5.8 million units of the Wii by March 2007, and aims to sell another 14 million during the current business year to March 2008.

In an effort to revive sales of its console and better compete with Nintendo, Sony on Monday cut the price of its PlayStation 3 by $100 in the United States. The company also unveiled a slimmer model of the PSP handheld this week.

Those steps, however, are unlikely to have substantial effects on Nintendo's operations, Iwata said.

"I wouldn't say there is no overlap between the group of customers Sony is targeting and the group of users that Nintendo is targeting. But that overlap is quite small," said Iwata, who is in Santa Monica, California, for the E3 game industry show.

Iwata also said the hardware side of its Wii game console business has already turned profitable.

It is not uncommon for a game maker to sustain prolonged losses in its hardware business while making money from software sales

I've been at my friend's house all weekend and since it was raining I decided to play Resistance: Fall of Man (PS3's answer to HALO). I can sum it up in one word: WEAK!!!

It has great reviews on gameinformer. They hype it up as the absolute must have for PS3, but it's truly not all that.

You can go in w/guns blazing (on Medium difficulty) and basically wipe out all your enemies. You don't have to use any strategy at all. You try that shit in HALO your basically stuck dying over and over trying to beat the board. The weapons are pretty lack luster and the vehicle driveability seems almost one dimensional. You hop in a tank and follow a few roads, fire the cannon, and shoot the weak as gun turret. Unlike HALO where you drive all over everything on the board. The boards also seem very limited as far as where you can adventure. I was really disappointed considering the capabillites of the console, great reviews and hype.

No, but that is pretty much all the feedback I've heard from it.

Gears of War is way different than Halo. Gears of War forces you to take shelter and hide. The programmers actually really pushed that idea when selling the game. In Halo you can get through a level without too much crouching and hiding. In GOW you have to, or you're dead basically. Not to mention the graphics are insane. Though its true selling point is the multi player. Its nearly as complex as Halo's multi player action. I'm excited for Halo 3...

Rainbow Six: Las Vegas was a bit of a let down too. The developer (Ubi) released it too soon and there are all sorts of flaws. One of them being that unless you change the resolution of your tv to 720p the graphics are blurry and grainy. Supposedly they are working on a patch to fix it, but they have no time line. It's rediculous, you can't see the details of your weapons and health at the bottom of the screen and part of the mini-map at the top gets cut off as well.

If you can look past all that, the game play is great. Just like the rest of the Rainbow Six games you have to be very stealthy with your movements and very accurate with your shots.
