DVD conversion help

Hey guys i was wondering if you could give me a hand. My brother just left for the middle east in the Air force. He asked me if I could download and send him some of the movies that come out while he is over there. I can get the movies off of bit torrents. But i am having a hard time figuring out how to actually get them burnt on a DVD. From what I know, DVDs are usually in ISO or something like that format. But most of the movies I download are in .avi, or mpeg. Are there programs that can do the conversion to DVD format so that it will play in a regular DVD player. Also, if there are 2 files, is there anyway to combine them into one. I appreciate all of your help, and if you know of the program names to help here please list them. Thanks

I use this to make dvds out of my avi files, I cant remember where I downloaded the serial number though.
