yeah im looking around. Was talking to someone today with the same provider and he had been charged over $6000 in excess usage fees. He had used something like 42 gig over his usage lol. And this is one of Australia's biggest telecomunication companys.

Where did you see that? Comcast used to have something like that but it would never happen now. Considering their competition and the amount of gamers on these networks, that would be suicide as a broadband buisness in America.Originally posted by NewbieChrisFrom what I understand Comcast wants to move to a usage system as well. That would just be ridiculous.

They terminate because of super usage right now:

They have been advocates for so long of putting a cap back on internet usage. They were strongly behind the internet equality act or whatever it was called. Oh, and its not for businesses, just consumers.

those first 2 articals are from 2003 and 2004 BEFORE comcast actually increased its speed here in the NJ area. they are very competitive here in jersey with Verizon Fios. i dont know how it is with the rest of the country but in jersey, comcast would be killing themselves by doing that.Originally posted by NewbieChrisI got a letter from Comcast about my usage a while back.

They were to show you that there has been a limit for a long time. The other one shows you the limit. Like I said, I know theres a limit and they will hit you for it. If they had their druthers it would be extremely limited, thats why they were huge backers of that internet act. If it was law that you could do it, they wouldn't lose any customers. Knowing Verizon, a limit system would make them happy too.Originally posted by THE BOUNCERthose first 2 articals are from 2003 and 2004 BEFORE comcast actually increased its speed here in the NJ area. they are very competitive here in jersey with Verizon Fios. i dont know how it is with the rest of the country but in jersey, comcast would be killing themselves by doing that.

it also sounds like it is has more to do with the area. this is from that last digg artical the Newbiechris posted. i dont think we have any limit here. if we do it must be so high that you dont need to worry about it.
Update: Charlie Douglas, the Comcast spokesperson cited below, contacted Wired News to say that figures given in the GameDaily story were meant only as examples and we have changed the headline to reflect that. Based on talking with Douglas and comments below, the limits for Comcast users appear to be considerably higher than our estimate. However, Comcast continues to say it does not have a hard and fast limit and "excessive use" could be well above, or, in some cases, below the cited figures. As you can see from reading the comments here and elsewhere, the bandwidth considered excessive, varies by location as well. Douglas also said that Comcast calls customers to inform them about excessive use, so if you haven't been called, there's no reason to worry.
