Yep, there is no catch. Depending on the timeshare, you sometimes have to make a certain income. The reason being - they don't want just anyone getting a free trip when they already know they aren't going to buy anything. Timeshares are pretty cool. You can trade with other people and go some neat places, etc. If you live in an area where there are a lot (like Orlando) you can get "free" stuff all the time. It just means you have to take a few hours out of your day to listen to their pitch and take the tour, etc.
Yea, some place called Network Direct came and spoke to my fraternity. They host timeshare like vacations, but its not limited by how many times you can go, etc. I won a free trip for 7 days and 6 nights even though I had no intention of signing up for anything.
My g/f's parents have a couple of them and they can use ones overseas by trading weeks and stuff with the ones they have. They are a good thing to have if you travel alot.
Its not just sitting through a speech. Its high pressure sales. They give ya all kind of paperwork and have a multitude of salespeople that try to get you one on one an press for a close. Very uncomfortable but if you can get through it I guess it would be worth it.
