  • Which Gaming System?

I need to purchase a gaming system for my nephew. Since I have never owned one or played on one or even read too much about one, I have no idea what the differences are between Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo, etc.

So, if I had to purchase one, which would it be and why? It is for a 7 year old, so I would like one that has a lot of age-appropriate games written for it, i.e. no first-person shooters.

If I was picking one for myself it would be a 360. PS3 just dosent have that many great games yet.

BUT, as much as it pains me to say this, for a 7 year old and with "no first person shooters" in mind, I will have to say the Wii.

Have fun finding one though. http://news.filefront.com/nintendo-l...-wii-shortage/

For a 7 year old? Go find a Nintendo 64 thats still in good shape for 50 bucks or less. My girl's 8 year old brother just got one and he is addicted. They don't know its old and it has a lot of age appropriate games and the original badass shooter game, Goldeneye 007! WOOT!!

Grinder, it's for a Christmas present. Putting some giftwrap around a used system would put my face on my nephew's dartboard for sure... lol....

Bouncer, I understand that the Wii is a different beast, but what are the differences between the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 that led you to recommend the 360? Sorry for the newbie questions......

The Wii is what you are looking for, the 360 and PS3 have comparable hardware, yet the PS3 is causing developers many headaches with their system. The 360 and PS3 are geared towards the older kids (15-??), a lot of shooters and a lot of focus on the online community with the 360. The Wii is less of a processor powerhouse then the other two, but it makes up for it in its game selection. The Wii offers a lot of action games (bowling, baseball, etc..), and also a lot of "brain games", Brain Age is one of the best ones. I have a friend with a 4 and 8 year old and they both love the Wii and the handheld Nintendo DS. The DS has a stronger line up of educational games, but I am sure most are going to follow on the Wii soon. Good luck.

The Xbox 360 is the better system based on games available, and that's what matters most. Potential processing power means jack if it's not being utilized.

The major differences between the PS3 and 360 are the internals and the OS. If you think your brother and sister will let your nephew play online the Xbox has PS3 beat with their online gaming system in my opinion. The PS3 is just a PS2 with better internals for better graphics. The Xbox can do so much more in terms of multi-media.

I would narrow it down to the Wii and the 360. The Wii is much more interactive, but in terms of life span I think the 360 will be better. There is a much wider variety of games for the 360 than any other system and it spans a wide range. The 360 has games for the younger crowd as well. Fusion Frenzy, Guitar Hero, Sonic games, etc.

Besides, I was playing Doom when when I was 8. Not sure how your bro/sis would feel about that though. :)

Fuzion Frenzy is a crappy game. I would go with the Wii. I've had all types of systems and for young children, Nintendo usually has the widest variety of games. As Turbo said, they have some strategy/puzzle/educational type games that are very popular as well.

And the Wii is the cheaper of the three!

Games. 360 has tons of A+ titles. online is far superior.

Isn't Nintendo the company that makes Wii?
