So to start off, I got some New Balance shoes for work and it made all the difference. My feet not longer hurt. Well now that I have learned how much the different shoes can make a difference, I need to get some running shoes. For a month I will only have access to running outside, but after that I will have a gym again and treadmills and stuff. I would prefer to mostly run outside though, probably a lot of concrete. What shoes should I be looking at?

do you know what kind of arch you have? I had never really paid attention to this, but I did this Take This Simple Test To Learn Your Foot Type
and it told me my arch type. I just went to Finish Line and told them I needed a shoe for high arches. I cannot believe the difference it made. I got a pair of Brooks running shoes, they were like 80 bucks. Hopefully this helps you out.

great timing, I went for a run (jog) about two hours ago and pulled my calf. That is only my second outing for quite some time, I just wanted to add a little fitness, just maybe a couple miles on the track two times a week.
right on the first lap my left calf twinged and I think its pulled, got ibuleive gell on it. I need to get some propper shoes and that test looks good

if you really want a good pair go to a running shoe store (like that is all the sell). here in NY we have on in Syracuse. its a drive but the guy video tapes your walk, gait and other criteria and make specific recommendations. I have to be real careful about what I wear since I get shin splints real easy.

Not true. I had Sketcher and Puma, those didn't keep my feet from hurting, while most Adidas and now New Balance have.Originally posted by redback View PostGUys all these brands are the same, nike, asics, puma whatever, they are all made in china for next to nothing, dont base your choice on the brand name.
