Oklahoma (-20.5) at Iowa State
Oklahoma doesn’t have the running of Quentin Griffin (1884 yards at 6.6 ypr) this season, but the Sooners are a much better offensive team thanks to senior quarterback Jason White, who is finally playing healthy. The Sooners have not been able to run the ball that well (3.8 yards per rushing play against teams that allow 4.1 yprp on defense), but they have become one of the nation’s best passing teams – averaging 7.9 yards per pass play (against teams that allow just 5.9 yppp on defense). The Sooners should have no trouble lighting up the scoreboard with their aerial attack against a Cyclones’ defense that has surrendered 7.9 yppp in their 3 Division 1A games (to teams that average 6.2 yppp on offense). Iowa State is average against the run (4.4 yprp allowed to teams that average 4.4 yprp), but Oklahoma can score all day against them if they choose to exploit the secondary. Iowa State has a pretty good offense (5.2 yppl against teams that allow 4.9 yppl), but they aren’t likely to generate much offense against a Sooners’ stop unit that has yielded only 3.8 yppl to teams that average 4.7 yppl on offense. Oklahoma should win this game by more than 3 touchdowns if they can keep themselves from looking ahead too much to next week’s big game with Texas.
