I'm going to be buying a 50inch Panasonic plasma that can display 1080p soon, so the timing for this is perfect for me. I can buy a blu-ray player with confidence.

From all the side-by-side comparisons I've done, the Viera has a better picture than the top LCD TV's (Sharp Aquos, Sony Bravia). The only reason I can see for chosing LCD over plasma is if you want to play video games on it. I was planning on buying a cheaper LCD for the basement to do that. Unless something has changed in the last 4 months (that's how long ago I did all the comparisons)...have LCDs taken a leap forward in picture quality?Originally posted by THE BOUNCER View Posti would go with an LCD over a plasma.

the thing that is tricky is comparing tv's in a store. they all have contrast turned all the way up. you really cant judge a tv until you get it home and look at it under proper lighting etc. most plasmas have a high gloss screen. that is all well and good until you realize that when you sit down to watch tv and you can see yourself. lol. LCD's are also much cheaper both in price and cost in electric to run.Originally posted by hitmansb View PostFrom all the side-by-side comparisons I've done, the Viera has a better picture than the top LCD TV's (Sharp Aquos, Sony Bravia). Hmmm....maybe I'll have to do one final compare before I decide. My father has a Panasonic Viera plasma, and I haven't noticed any reflection on it the way he has things set up. A buddy of mine just bought a 42 inch Sharp Aquos LCD, so I'll go to his place and check out his set in 'real world' lighting and contrast conditions before I make my final decision.Originally posted by THE BOUNCER View Postthe thing that is tricky is comparing tv's in a store. they all have contrast turned all the way up. you really cant judge a tv until you get it home and look at it under proper lighting etc. most plasmas have a high gloss screen. that is all well and good until you realize that when you sit down to watch tv and you can see yourself. lol. dlp's have a much better picture than lcd's. If you compare a plasma to an lcd with the same video input from a quality dvd other video source you will see that the lcd doesn't come close to image quality of a plasma. I'm very surpirsed to hear you say that Bouncer. I see lcd's, dlp's, crt's, and plasmas every day and lcd's are definitely at the bottom. They aren't bad by any means, but they do show video aliasing more than the others. The biggest benefit of an lcd aside from cost is that it is the best option for rooms with a lot of sunlight.

you never heard me say anything about a better picture. i was saying all things considered. there is a reason LCD is the top selling HD technology.Originally posted by blm View Postdlp's have a much better picture than lcd's. P.S. DLP is a dieing technology for home theater use.
the market is all about flat panel and LCD is King.

I think you're crazy if you think dlp is a dying technology. They are modifying the technology and using laser as opposed to regular projected light. The so called flat panels will reportedly only be cm's thick and the picture quality will be exponentially better than lcd and easily rival plasma.Originally posted by THE BOUNCER View PostP.S. However, since they have been talking about implementing this technology for quite some time...in your defense the right here right now best buy is lcd.Last edited by blm; 01-12-08, 12:50 PM.
