  • Question for the car guru's

I have a 2001 Chevrolet Tracker. It's a 2WD 4Cy. I had the belts changed yesterday, but I'm thinking I got ripped off. Unfortunately I don't know enough about cars (I'm slowly learning) to fix them myself or if someone is selling me on a bunch of shit I don't need. Well I got charged for two serpentine belts, but it looks like there is only one. It looks like there is another belt around only two pulley's. I think it's the tensioner. Anyways, I'm thinking I got ripped off.

Pretty sure there is only 1 serpentine belt on any car.

Did they replace the tensioner also? Maybe they meant to charge you for that and the serpentine and messed up on the receipt.

    How much they charge you?

$40 for each. I said something about not realizing there was two serpentines and the guy said nothing.

well i dont know what the tracker has but serpentine belt is one the tensioner is what tightens the belt as it stretches and all that so unless u have 2 belts u got fucked loljust open the hood and look at it anyone with eyes can distinguish if theres 1 or 2 belts

There is two belts, one just doesn't look like a serpentine and that's where I think I got ripped off.

In the picture the top belt looks new but the lower one doesnt. but hard to tell. just look in there to see if they are both new. If they are cool. If not go back and ask why they didnt change it since they charged you.

It was an NTB and I have just previous expierence where I got the impression they were second rate mechanics. I will be moving in two weeks and that one won't really be convenient. So I will be finding a new place.

To be quite honest it looks like the fan betl for the radiator, not a serpentine belt. Where did you go and how much did they charge you again? 80 bucks total? I mean that isn't too bad. Do you know their hourly rate?

Other than the fact that your car had two belts replaced and an oil change no. I guess the tracker does have two. They definately put two different belts on the car because they had different part numbers. So, I would say you didn't get screwed.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I hate getting maintenance done on a car. It's so stressful to me since it's something that has to be done and I don't have the excpierence to do it myself. I'm afraid that if I did it myself something worse would go wrong and I either couldn't afford it or my car would be out of commission for to long.
