I don't get it...anyone have any ideas?

So, one of our dogs is an Rott. He will be 8 in April- he is housetrained. Well, the past I guess 2 weeks, he's had SEVERAL accidents in the basement. Now, most of them have been of the #3 variety. That's about as descriptive as I'm going to get.

We thought he was sick at first, so we just rode it out and it was better. But then he just did it again twice yesterday! And, Sonis has been home now for almost a week, so it's not like he's been getting left alone alot. One was solid, the other not. Now, I was actually sick w/ the stomach flu a couple weeks ago. Is it possible he got my virus? I mean, obviously if this continues for another day or so, we will take him to the vet. I just didn't know if any of you had any thoughts on this

We had a stomach virus in my house last xmas.. 3 of us and the york starting acting up with # 3 also. I guess they can also catch it. His lasted for 2 days, longer than either of us.

my mom has an 8 year old rott also red. he did this a few time also belive it or not. she took him to the vet and and the vet said some dogs go through a phase as they get older. they regress so to speak. my mom was really yelling at the dog and the vet said that is the worst thing you can do. it builds anxity and stress if you yell and that is bad for an old dog. best thing to do, even though it is a pain is take him out side every hour or 2 for a few weeks. even if he dosent have to go. just like when you are training a puppy. my mom did this and worked like a charm.

Now, to make it just a super fun month:

I'm dogsitting for my parents' 12 yr old Dachsund. They are vacationing in Argentina until next Tuesday. So, last night he's in his dog bed. All of a sudden, his head kicks backward, front paw starts twitching and he lets out this horrendous little squeal! He was disoriented and really lethargic afterwards. And, to top it all off, he had TWO accidents during the night. Well, he had a seizure. So, I take him to our vet this morning, and he tells me that since he has congestive heart failure, (which we knew) that can attribute to having seizures. Then I put a call into his vet, and that freaking douche hasn't even called back yet!

I get to work, and my boss tells me his sister has had 2 Dachsunds, and his friend has one, and they all have done this seizure thing. But, the vet didn't mention it.

I'm just freaking out....I don't have contact w/ my parents hardly, and I don't know WTF to do. The vet said he seems to be ok now, and the accidents he had was in relation to the stress of the seizure. But, I don't want the little guy to die on my watch!

Wow. That's really interesting! That really helps. It's pretty much non existent, now. But it's just funny that he started doing it when sonis WAS home. bad shit always seems to happen when someone is on vacation. i can almost guarantee something to go wrong when i am on vacation.

Bad news....

After I took my parents' dog to the vet last week, he was decent the next day. But, then he really took a dive. He was having several accidents in our house, and none were solid. Then Saturday night, all of a sudden he gets up out of his dog bed and goes to lay on the floor by our bed. I go to pick him up, and his belly is all wet..He'd peed himself in his dog bed- that's when I knew it was bad....and the accidents just continued until my parents came home from Argentina on Tuesday of this week.

My mom took him straight to the vet, and the vet said it was best to put him down. He was having kidney failure as a result of the heart problem. I was so upset; especially for my mom. She had to come home a dying dog. The only good thing is that I was able to care for him and try and make him as comfortable as possible. I know if they would've boarded him, he wouldn't have made it until they got back.

Sorry to hear it red. Old dogs don't seem to do well when the owners leave.

I watched my moms boston terrier for a week while she was on vacation and the dog developed some kind of eye infection and had to have his eye removed.

sad stuff.
