I was driving down the road last night around 8pm and passed a coffee shop that look like it had a bunch of kids in that couldn't drive or maybe barely 16. It just seems like there is something wrong about it. They have the right, but what teenager needs that kind of caffeine at that time of night.

Definitely, in some states you can't buy weight loss or caffeine pills under 18. You also can't buy certain cold medicines. Sometimes I wonder if they should be some sort of age limit on coffee shops. There have been reports of kids drinking energy drinks all night playing games and going into cardiac arrest. I'm not for more government control, but I don't think these kids are old enough to make a decision like that. The parents come from a generation of people who just drank coffee in a mug with cream or sugar. I think they need to be better educated on it also.

I don't know how or what they could do to "regulate" this, but I totally agree it doesn't seem right. I guess they could post an age limit, but then you get in to having to card people for coffee - which seems unlikely as well. I see parents buying their young (like 10) children coffee - I don't get it. Starbucks is almost like a fad. They always show celebrities drinking it, etc. It's coffee, it's not a new concept!

Man I grew up on coffee, espresso especially, I used to get up @ 6am drink a nice shot of spresso and go back to sleep till it was time to get up for school, lol. BUT I am glad that my daughter doesn't like coffee or soda for that matter.
I do however see that there is a fad in this with the teens, a popular hangout.. they think its cool and man are addicted. And the weather has nothing to do with it.. they hang out there in the summer too. My niece who is 15 goes there about 4xs a week not including the weekends, lol. For xmas she wanted a gazillioon starbucks gift cards, lol. She doesn't even drink the coffee, she has some strawberry frap and pound cake. Ever try their marble loaf.. so yum.
When I was a teen we used to go to the movies and not to watch the movie, hehe. What happended to that cool hangout :D We also used to go to house parties and drink alcohol.. I mean pick your evil.
No offense, but I rather have my teen hanging out at starbucks than on a street corner smoking pot or in some hotel room getting tore up. There are worse things that teens could be doing these days than drinking coffee, IMO. Not saying they should go bonkers on caffeine, but...........

i would have to agree with rado also. think about it for a sec, this is like one of those times where grownups are saying, "damn kids, back in my day". lol. kids are going to do things that grownups dont like. in the scheme of things, coffee is about good as it gets. they could be doing much worse.

not to be argumentative but i dont think 5 year olds think about "fads" :POriginally posted by WonderWoman View Postmy daughter loves going to starbucks, but she doesn't drink coffee, she just likes the fad too and she is only 5. She likes to plop on the big chairs and just hang with me while I read the paper and drink my coffee. I see alot of mothers in there with small children.
:D
