You come from the world of Computers...I need a hard drive to replace the one that just recently failed. However, the more and more I look around the more and more I realize its almost impossible to find a extremely reliable drive. What drive would you recommend. I don't really care too much about speed. Mainly I'm looking for a large amount of storage.

chris, i have a separate hard drive used to back up stuff from my computer etc. after i back something up i unplug it and put it away. i think most failures come from people just keeping the damn thing plugged in all day spinning at 10,000 RPM etc. i have had an iomega extrenal hard drive that i have had for 3 years or so, no issue at all.

What Bouncer said is true, but hd's are not made to last very long anymore. 2yrs out of routinely used hd is good (these days). I can't stress enough how important it is to put anything of importance on disc. Hard drives fail, that's a fact so why test the longevity with important data at the risk of losing it all.

it gets hard to put huge amounts of data on discs though. especially when we are talking terabits.

and hell, my old laptop is almost 5 i think, its hard drive is still fine.

true. hell I have one pc that I've gone through 4 hd's ( due to failure) in the last 6 yrs. I also have another pc that I have had the same hd for 7 yrs.

Not too many home users have terabits of data to be backed up. In a corporate environment that is true but most home users should be able to backup there data to a couple DVD disks.

chris is talking about a terabit hard drive. if he has that much shit, thats alot of disks.

I have about 600 gigs worth of media in total. Some of it was on another drive, some of it wasn't. I am thinking RAID 1 with 2 1TB drives, but that would be upwards of $600. :wacko: :drunk: I don't even know what I am going to do. :breakit:

get the one in the link i posted. its a fine drive and dosent cost anything close to $600.

I considered it, but I would need 2 1TB drives. I'm never relying on having my data on one drive EVER again.:mad:
