  • Keeping your checking account organized?

I rarely have cash and just use my debit card. So I just keep all my receipts and record the stuff at home. The thing is I am just trying to keep an idea of how much I have and what I need while I'm out. What ways to you keep up with your accounts while out?

I do all my checking and banking online for the most part. so if I DIDN't have access to a computer I would be screwed, lol...but i like debit because it comes right out and I schedule all my bills for certain days so I know exactly when the money will be gone.

I do all that too, I would like to keep some sort of log when I'm out but I don't feel like carrying a checkbook register around along with everything else. I was hoping someone would have an idea that I'm not thinking of.

how much spending are you doing, lol. If I know how much money I have when I leave the house I can do the math in my head.

It's not the big purchases like groceries, it's the many little stuff that will throw me off a little bit and can make things difficult. Things like gas here, getting lunch if we are out for a long time, needing something little at Lowes, if we forgot an item when buying food, all those little things start to add up and I kind of loose track.

I do most my shopping and errands on Saturday. The thing with debit cards is that it almost comes out immediately. Some things will show up right away as a pending transaction others will just make my available balance lower, but won't show up until Monday night when charges are posted.

Did you ever buy/get that PDA? My phone has a couple applications you can use for that exact thing. It's like a checkbook essentially, you record as you go and it keeps your balance up to date...

The only other thing you're going to be able to do is manually write it in your checkbook or on some other piece of paper.

I check my balance online. Once a day i check to see how much i have. I usually use my card only for online purchases.

We got the PDA, but that's for my wifes stuff. I don't use it. I think I will just have to carry a register with me.

NOT EVERYTHING shows up right away. So I would like to keep an exact log of where I am at financially on the weekends.

As for the computer, I forgot to get a damn screwdriver when I was at the store today. So I will have to go back :D

If you have to take your credit card out of your wallet, could you keep a little cheat sheet inside your wallet? You could just scribble down the amt as you put your card back in your wallet or when you're out of sight of everybody. You could keep a declining balance to ensure you don't go over your limit.

To do all that I might as well keep a register. I was just looking for something more convenient, but it doesn't look like there is.

it should at least show up as a temporary charge so that its subtracted in one column to show your balance when it WILL be out but in available it will show a different amount.
