  • pain when i lift heavy

well i was workin my legs the day before yesterday.

same routine as always. warm up, squats, getting into my leg press work out everything was fine. i was feeling good so i decided to ad an extra plate to what i usually do. i guess this was a bad idea because towards the last couple reps when i would exert my energy and puss the weight i got a HUGE throbbing pain in my head. it felt like someone had kicked me in the back of the head. so i laid off the heavy weight and didnt go so heavy for the rest of my workout and it went away.

    yesterday was my day off

today i went in and while i was doing some incline bench i got the same pain. my vision got kind of cloudy and i felt a huge pressure in my head.

im getting kind of worried because this has never happened before.
im goin to see the doctor today but i just wanted to see if anyone has had this kind of problem before or knows what it might be

i called my mother cuz she is a nurse and she told me that my blood pressure might be high but we'll see what the doc says

First things first - check your breathing patterns...... That plays a HUGE role in lifting heavy and avoiding issues like this but.... I will say this - if you're truly lifting "heavy" it may not be something you can completely avoid - certain compound movements simply leave you "hurting" no matter what you do :(

      now that u mention it

my breathing pattern, when i lift heavier than usual does go pretty much go out the window.

i guess ill have to work on that.

im still goin to the doc to get myself checked out tho

      better safe than sorry

      thanks foghat

what does that mean and how do supps have an effect on blood vessels in the brain?

Mr Mafioso why don't you high rep for a couple of weeks, give your CNS a break and allow healing to any problem areas, just sounds like your body is telling you something and don't want to see you cause yourself a long layoff

The problem is most likely your blood pressure. Not breathing properly causes a raise in the internal pressure of your abdomen (this is called valsalva). This also increase the total peripheral pressure raising the blood pressure. That weird feeling you get is from the oxygen not diffusing and co2 not being bound by the blood to be carried away. It can be avoided by watching your breathing closely and making sure that as you push the weight you exhale instead of grunting or just holding your breath.

well not so much the main cause but when i went to the doc my blood pressure was higher than normal so i figured it was due to the supps so im just gonna cool it with that shit
