I just placed an order from timberwolforganics.com I bought the ocen blue formula. Going to see if he likes it.
I have a natural pet food store around the corner. I need to look online though. I'm sure I could find it cheaper.

Just got him home, he is a siberian husky. Introducing him to his crate, and he is not enjoying it. I haven't had a new pup in so long, I forgot how much there is to do. I am use to my adult dog that is pretty much self sufficient.
Poor guy is just hollering in his crate.

yep, you have to pretty much dedicate your life for 2-3 months. if you do it will be smooth the rest of his life. if however you dick around and treat him bad and dont take him out etc.. you will have problems for a long time. the first few months is very important.Originally posted by Turbo3000 View PostJust got him home, he is a siberian husky. Absolutely. I bet for the first few weeks I was taking mine out every hour or so. When we brought him home we left the crate door open put some toys in there and let him wonder in and out for awhile then we put him in there at night. At first I didn't have it covered and he would whine and yelp for awhile, but as soon as I covered the crate he never did it again. He's 7 months now and he can reliably be left home alone for 8-10hrs while we work and he doesn't soil anywhere or chew anything either. A good variety of chew toys is a great idea too. The first coupe of months are stressful.

I will get some pics up asap. I had to sleep with him on the couch last night, he just wouldn't stop the crying in the crate. I then left him for an 40 min in it today, I returned and he was still crying, so obviously that didn't work. I am not making a big deal out of the crate, I get him to go into it and I don't do a long goodbye, I left a radio on also.
Any insider tips? Last time I crate trained a dog was 13 years ago, and he just accepted the crate the first day. I have been doing a lot of crate exercises I read online, putting him in there, staying beside it, leaving door open..etc....
It is only the 2nd day so I know we still have a long road ahead, I just want to make sure he is loving life. He seems to enjoy the kitchen, so I figured if the crate idea doesn't work after a few weeks, that I should try the kitchen and baby gate.
I know he is still most likely shocked about leaving his litter, he was a puppy of 7 and there were about 12 adult dogs also, so his pack was large. He also was the first out of the litter to leave, so I can't help but feel sorry for the little guy. I do love him to death, he has already stolen my heart.
Thanks guys, wish me some good luck tonight on the crate sleeping.

Unfortunately, my dog is the exception to the rule. Once a year or so, he would get diarrhea/vomitting and I'd take him in. They'd put him on antibiotics & rehydrate him and we'd be on our way for it to happen 8 - 12 months later. He had some bladder stones too for which they gave him a special stone diet that actually dissolved them. It was very high in fat.
Well, I decided to try one of the high quality protein diets and within a couple weeks he was really sick again. They found that his liver enzymes were elevated. They suspected I may have poisoned him w/cleaning agents in my house, but I told them that I didn't clean. :D (kidding...not w/strong chems).
They did an ultrasound that showed a possible mass on his liver, so they did a liver biopsy. They had to cut him from groin to sternum. Man, that made me feel really bad when I brought him home. He had a damn 10 inch incision & he is 12 lbs. I had to carry him under the neck and rear to keep him from stretching. Anyway, turned out it was hepatitis or some sort of liver inflammation & it was all being caused by a high protein diet which his body can't handle.
Now, he is on a prescription diet, Hills Wellness Diet, that is higher in fat & lower in protein. It took me and the vets a couple of years to figure out everything that was going on with him, but I'm glad I did. He has been issue free now for close to a year...hope it stays that way. Sometimes they can be medical mysteries, so don't rule anything out.
