I completely disagree with the government saying that the families that make over $100K are rich. What a load of crap! My hubby and I make that and we still budget our money. I don't own extravagant clothes or jewelry. I drive a nice car, but it's not a Mercedes or BMW or anything close to that. I don't for one second consider myself "rich" or in the upper class.

I hate the take from the "rich" and give to the "middle class" political mentality. Why should I have to fund someone elses being? We both work hard for every penny we have.

The other thing that needs to be changed is tax brackets. Seeing that any american who pulls in $500K a year is taxed EQUALLY to like a LeBron James who pulls in $30M a year is CRAZY.... or like a Tiger Woods or a Bill Gates. Think of that.

As for gas prices, eventually they have to hit a ceiling because once everyone stops being able to afford it, the demand will completely fall and the majority of consumers won't be driving like they were and will be buying a lot less. Today we were at $3.93 here in Cleveland.

That's EXACTLY what we are thankful for. Had we waited just 3 weeks to sell the diesel, we wouldn't have even gotten anywhere close to what was owed.

Before everyone gets their posses together- read his proposal. His "tax breaks" will be for the true middle class- those earning $75k or less. There would be $1000 tax break at the end of the year for these people. Secondly- his tax would basically raise the SOCIAL SECURITY tax bracket from the current $97,500 PER PERSON to $102, 000. That's a whopping $5k. So, utimately you will have to make over $200K for you to really see an impact.

But, what people aren't saying here is why he proposes to raise the Social Security tax bracket- If he doesn't- Social Security will have run out by 2017. So, all the money WE have put into Social Security all these years- we won't see a penny of it when it's time for us to retire.

And, I agree that the rich shouldn't have to give to the middle class, or poor. But, that's really not what's happening here. What you are angry about- Lebron James & like a principal of a school paying the same amount of taxes- is what he's trying to eliminate.

NASA had a billion dollar project where they collided a rocket with a meteor. it was fucking cool buy you cant say ones a waste and another isnt. we had a trillion dollar defict since as long as i can remember before both bush or clinton.

Am I understanding this right? Is it just me or does a $1000 tax break just seem like a mockery. I make less than 50k and that wouldn't do shit to improve my life. How would someone making 75k+ going to be impressed by this? Take that 1k from everyone and do something good for the country and I think it would make a much bigger difference in everyone's life.

I'm not sure I understand your question. The $1000 tax break would mean you pay taxes on $1000 less, which would hopefully yield a little bit higher of a tax return. This would be in addition to the standardized deduction amount, if that's what you take. People who make over $75k aren't supposed to be impressed but this- I'm not following you here. The increase in the Social Security tax for people who make over the $75k is going to be used to help people continue to receive it. Otherwise it's going to run out in 2017. So, what Obama is trying to do is impose a little bit higher tax for those who can afford it in order to keep Social Security alive. I'm not saying I'm a supporter of this idea, but I do see how it can do some thing good for the country. Maybe give people al ittle more money back on their return, and allow Social Security to keep paying it's recipients.

The fact that we allow our governments to allow these huge oil companies to get away with this is sickening. And, until more people continue to protest, it's not going to change much.

I didn't live in the 60's, but I do know the 60's represented a revolution. It's time to go back to those principles again- it's time to take the control back of our government from big business & big brother. We have let this go on for too long.

I guess I confused you since I am confused. What I am asking is if they are giving these people an insignificant tax break, what is the point other than mocking their intelligence. As if the politicians think the 75k+ people are to stupid to realize the tax break really won't make a difference but they will like the way it sounds. On the other hand if the government kept the money and did something productive with it ( I know this is a long shot) then the 75k+ people and the rest of the country will benefit more.
