My dad bought a $1500 bose home theater a few years ago, and LOVES it

after setting it up it sounded REAL NICE...i put in fast and the furious and i was shocked by the sound quality...

now that you guys are saying B&W is better, i want to definately check one out.
saying B&W is better then bose dosent do it justice. like saying a billion dollars is better then a hundred dollars. well no shit! lol

honestly bose is a joke to audiophiles. that "$1500" bose system was put together with $2 parts. bose marks up their products like no other company.

your talking a good bit of money.

plus, the true area where B&W shines is music. sure they will do home theater great but music is their specialty.

DNA, the speakers are by far the most important component in your stereo system. If you have $2000 to spend, I would spend at least 50% on the speakers and the rest on the other components.

There are many companies that design and manufacture phenomenal speakers. American and British companies are very strong in this area, so it is nice to be able to buy Made in USA speakers, knowing that you are rewarding fine craftsmen in this country. Of course B&W are made in UK and they are very good as well.

go to an specialty hi-fi stereo store in your area, i.e. not Best Buy or Circuit City. Give a listen to the speakers there. Other brands that are in my opinion exceptional are Vandersteen, Martin Logan, Paradigm, Thiel, Magnepan, NHT, etc. Most of the ones I have mentioned are made in the US or Canada.

Plus, many of these are works of art. It's like having a sculpture in your room. Look at these Martin Logans - these are the ones I lust after!

            Good lord those are nice.

I am trying to get a whole new entertainment system for my basement...

i want a 60" HD TV and a home theater system will 'literally' rock the house

I have seen this Yamaha system at Best Buy for $700, total of 1500watts and i was like. Now that i am reading up information about home theaters i am really thinking about going all out and telling my parents its worth $4,000

The only "consumer mass market" brand I would even consider would be Denon - they have some reasonable A/V receivers. For that price however, you can get Rotel or NAD, so why settle for anything less? Or you can step up and get a B&K - the AVR507 at the bottom of this link. Pretty sweet, made in New York.

scrum, me and you might disagree here but IMO Martin login speakers have a "wrong sound" to them. i was thinking about buying a pair a year or so ago and when i went and listed to them i didnt like them. B&W on the other hand sound great!

come on dude, Harman Kardon and the higher end Onkyo's are right there on the same level as denon.

this onkyo will match or beat even the top level Denon. Onkyo TX-NR905 - 7.1-Channel Home Network Receiver | Model Information | Onkyo USA Home Theater Products

i would also add Polk Audio to the list. these guys here will go toe to toe with even some of the higher level B&W's for a much cheaper price. RTi A9 Product Page : High performance floorstanding Loudspeaker : Polk Audio

Agreed on the Harmon Kardon, don't know too much about the Onkyo. I was referring more about the Pioneers and Sonys of the world....

but my point still stands that at that higher price point, I'd rather go for something like NAD. Hitman did very well there with his selection....

agreed with the receivers that you will find at best buy etc.. they are crap. but even sony has some pretty damn high end receivers.

Got some bad news today at Electronics Boutique...they aren't expecting any more PS3 80GB models to come in until June, when they will be shipped bundled with Metal Gear Solid 4. I'm assuming they won't be able to sell them until June 12, the day MGS4 gets released. So I'm gonna have to wait another month and change to fire up a Blu-ray movie on my new system.

that system also comes with the new Dual Shock 3 controller. Better to just wait for it.
