  • Spitting Gets HIV-Positive Man 35 Years in Prison

An HIV-positive man was sentenced to 35 years in prison on Wednesday for spitting in the mouth and eye of a police officer.

Back in 2006, Willie Campbell, 42, of Dallas, spit in the face of Officer Dan Waller, who was arresting him for public intoxication, prosecutor said, according to local newspaper Dallas Morning News. He also spit at two other officers.

"He turns and spits. He hits me in the eye and mouth. Then he told me he has AIDS. I immediately began looking for something to flush my eyes with," Waller said during his testimony.

Campbel’s lawyer, Russel Henrichs said on Thursday that, during the trial, his client denied that he had resisted arrest or spit at an officer.

Campbell was found him guilty of harassment of a public servant and was sentenced to 35 years in prison. The jury decided his saliva was like a deadly weapon. Campbel won’t be eligible for parole until he’s served half his sentence, the paper said.

“I know it sounds cliché, but this is why you lock someone up, so our streets are safer. Without him out here, our streets are a safer place,” Waller added.

The good news is that none of the three officer attacked by Campbell contracted HIV.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention “contact with saliva, tears or sweat has never been shown to result in transmission of HIV.”

Give him a sentence, but it's stupidity and fear that makes someone say that spitting, from someone with HIV, is a deadly weapon.

That's total BS. What does gay or not gay have to do with it? I'm sure if it were a black guy, Al Sharpton would be sticking his fucking nose in this too. The fact that the guy spit in the guys mouth and immediately said, "I have AIDs", proves that he was trying to inflict harm on the officer. They say its not a good reason because you can hardly ever extract it from saliva. Well, say you try to shoot an officer and don't realize the gun isn't loaded. People don't die from unloaded guns too often, but there is still intent there. I think the guy got what he deserved.

well considering you can get aids via saliva (even though the odds are low) i dont think its that stupid at all. you know god damn well, if some piece of shit with aids spit in your mouth, you would be pretty god damn scared.

My understanding is that it isn't possible to contract HIV through saliva. If I am wrong then I take it all back.

nobody has ever gotten aids through saliva but science says it is possible. either way, his intent was obvious.

As far as I know there has enver been a case and it has never been proven that you can.

1st and foremost assaulting an arresting officer in it self deserves a jail sentence. Spitting in anyones face HIV positive or not these days with the diseases we have you always have to assume everyone is HIV + have you ever watched someone die from HIV or there children. I'm sorry lock them up and send a message that this will not be tolerated. I can not get behind gay rights advocates on this. People that put there lives on the line out there need special consideration. You assault a Law officer in any way you go to jail period.

The only way that cop would have gotten AIDS from that guys saliva is if he had a cut anywhere in the area, and even getting it then is pretty damn low.

Giving the guy 35 years is a load of shit. Give him a year or 2 for assaulting the officer. There are murderers and kid touches who get less time than that. His spit is not a fucking deadly weapon.

                          WTF is wrong with people?

are you fucking kidding me? his intent was give this police officer aids. no matter how low the chances of actually getting it that way are. this guy is just as bad as "kid touches" or any other piece of garbage.

i cannot for the life of me understand what the fuck you and shibby are thinking.
