I turned it on in the 3rd period and watched the whole overtime. Pitt got lucky...but this could give them life. Next game is in their building, and a long game like this will take more out of the older Detroit players' legs most likely...so Pitt should have the jump on them for Game 6.

I watched it through 2OT. I am so tired this morning. :) I can't tell if Pit just lets up around the third for some reason or if Det is just that good at finding their way back... One thing I do notice that kills Pit is that when the pens are on a power play it doesn't look like a power play. The only time that Pit looked like they had a man advantage was on the empty net goal to send it to overtime. Otherwise they look like they are playing 5 on 5 during their power plays. I know it's more luck than anything, but it's kind of crazy that Sykora called the game winning goal.Last edited by Shibby; 06-03-08, 04:24 AM.

They did get lucky. Detroit outskated and out-defensed them; hands down. But, one of the reasons I think they won is because they have such a young team, and those younger guys could stand playing almost 2 hours of hockey. Detroit has a lot of vets, so I think stamina just had a lot to do with it.
I still can't believe they scored w/ less than 30 seconds to go in the 3rd!

Sykora was one the main reason for NJ Devils success.

LeFleury is a freaking MANCHILD, btw! He is the only reason they were still in the game.
After the 1st OT- the Pens finally got smart and were playing much better defense on the puck....Less guys around the net, and more to defend center ice & the net. I'm so happy they won- I can't stand the Red Wings.
And, can someone please explain to me the significance of the octopus? I know it's tradition in Detroit, but how did something like that get started?Last edited by redsquirrel; 06-03-08, 09:33 AM.

"The first octopus landed on the ice during the Red Wings' 1952 Stanley Cup run, courtesy of brothers Pete and Jerry Cusimano, who owned a fish market. If you know your cephalopods, you will know that an octopus has eight tentacles. In those days it took eight playoff wins to claim the Cup, hence the supposed symbolism of the gesture.Originally posted by redsquirrel View PostLeFleury (Marc-Andre Fleury)is a freaking MANCHILD, btw! The Red Wings were perfect in the '52 playoffs, sweeping the semifinal and the final in straight games. The octopus has been a good luck charm ever since. "

Sure is- I can't wait!! I haven't been this excited about hockey in a long time. Our home team hasn't been good for about 4 years now. And to be quite honest, I lost interest because of the strike..Originally posted by KING DAVID 2 View PostWell tonights the night. I sure hope this does not go to over time again. That was a killer to go to work the next day. I bet the Redwings older players are still feeling the effects of that last game. Go Pens!
Yeah- I really hope it's not another one like Monday. I'm still tired!
The thing that I've enjoyed most about this series, is it seems like there is almost no dirty hits or a lot of fighting- just good clean hockey, and great defense.
Let's hope the Wings are still draggin ass tonight!
