  • Phil Baroni - New York Bad Ass

judging by this interview I think this guy has really come of age and he's my new favourite fighter. Seems like a really cool guy now as well and I'm convinced he has the right attitude to be a champ one day.

War Baroni, and I want that tracksuit top its awsome, watch the whole interview

    B do you know him?

Please tell me youre kidding. Baroni is the biggest shit talker in MMA and quite frankly, hes a can. Hes a one-dimensional fighter, hes old, and only has a few fights left.

Oh and hes in the EliteXC which is the worst org around annnd he got KTFO'ed last Saturday, and I love it.

I know what your saying but when you consider what these guys do (I know you practice this stuff also and props to you), and what relatively little they get paid its no wonder they try and hype the fights with talk so much. Yeah he's not all that clever and marketed his attitude which became his mantra but he lays it al on the line.

He's made some mistakes and been imature and he's been slated and treat very roughly for it, a bit like Tito Ortiz did. Couture and Lindland said they used him as a punch bag in training back in the day when he went to their camp with an attitude. Frank Shamrock cashed in on Baroni's tendency to smack talk but I'm sure interview edits and promotor encouragements have helped embelish his apparent arrogant personality in the past.

The point is he hasn't had much luck of late and I for one as an armchair viewer believe he deserves a break. So I say good luck to him he seems to have turned a corner and grown up a bit and wants to be respected and knows he has more to learn. A shift change from seemingly aimlesley running the hamster wheel of publicising himself as an asshole.

He's done more in the sport than a Kimbo yet he doesn't get paid as much, that for me is bullshit and if I had the choice I'd veto a kimbo ppv in favour of watching the NYBA.

Wow...not that you had any credibility when you talked about mma, but any minute amount you may have had is completely lost.

He's a loud mouth chump that writes checks that his ass can't cash. The quick knock out beating he took on Saturday after his little gay pimp parade was absolute poetic justice!

He's 10-10.. best win is probably over Chonan or maybe Kondo. But hes all or nothing, either KO's someone or gets tool'ed. Hes lost to Lindland twice, Tanner twice other than that, hasnt really banged with top level competition. Dont tell me Frank Shamrock is top level either :)

but picture this, you have to go into a cage and beat the shit out of someone or get the shit beat out of you. You know like we all do that if you stand there and say "yeah well I might win or then agai I might lose and I think the other guy is really great" the fight won't seem that exciting to Mr average, hence the Shamrock Ortiz beef, the Shamrock Frye beef etc I mean contraversy sells fights right? thats what perpetuates WWE sales

So when you look at the man and put yourself in his shoes your gonna think "I want to get as big a rep as possible to get paid as much as possible, after all its the entertainment business, but one where I could get hurt and this fight could be my last.

So in considering these thoughts, there is probably more than a bit of hyping behing his previous behaviour on camera. Then add to this the psycological condition you should adopt before a fight and then someone ask you about your oponent, you arn't going to say oh I think the other guy will win or you'd phsyc yourself out.

All said and done I just think the guys deserves a chance:)

I agree, but self-promotion doesnt go near as far as beating quality opponents. Hes fun to watch because he swings for the fences. If he puts together a strign of wins against decent opponents, thats how you get respect and a bigger paycheck. Seeing as how hes in the EliteXC, he may as well retire.

Man you guys are harsh, I can't believe you can watch that vid and not feel and ounce of sympathy. For me I see a simple guy in a dangerous game, I practice BJJ infrequently, not like Rado and clearly don't do what you do YJ and you would not get me doing that MMA shit i a cage for the cash those guys get, no fuckin way I'd want lots more. So when I guy like that comes so respectful and humble on the mic like that, to me it says it all, he has a heart and thats the real Phil Baroni, not the media hype.

Like you say YJ he's all or nothing and I just hope he gets another shot and some help, cos it seems to me its all going the way of the likes of kimbo and guys like Baroni that have served their apprentiships are getting left behind

Shit man, I agree. Anyone who gets in the cage to fight has my respect. At my level, its not a lot of money and sometimes, no money at all.

And he will get another chance, hes entertaining to watch, hes been around the block (both Pride & UFC) and people like to watch him. I love to watch him, just wish he'd get some ground game or at least a better clinch game but all and all, Ill never all out bash a fighter.

                        Except Kimbo.

Ha Ha you aint kidding. Im pretty sure most of the guys in the lil shows do it for the love and comp. A few think they are going somewhere but lets face it you have to be super good to get even a lil bit of money. Im gonna do it just because what ever dollar amount dosnt matter to me. Shit when im ready ill do it for 100 bucks.
