Zipcar : How does Zipcar work?

Any of you seen this around or used it? I just saw it this weekend. It sounds like it a subscription service for a car to run errands.

looks like a good idea. things like that will be increasingly popular with gas prices.

It's in all the major cities right now. It's perfect for people that can't or don't want the hassle of a car. My gf may actually use zipcar when she moves to Boston.

If you didn't have to be 21 I'm sure there would be tons of college kids using it.

Basically, you become a member, either paying a monthly or an annual fee. Once you are a member, you can rent cars out by the hour (or by the day). If you are going to rent for a day (going for a long trip, for example), you are better off getting a rental car. However, if you only need if for an hour or two here and there, zipcar is the ticket.

If you live in the city, have reasonable public transportation and can take care of essential activities like grocery shopping or dropping the kids at school by walking and only need cars for occasional errands or trips, then it should work out just fine, I think.
