Yeah...sometimes we forget that most of us on this board, not 'wealthy' in our own minds, have televisions that cost more than the average person in many countries makes in a whole year. Or that a lot of us on this board eat more meat in a week than some people could afford to consume in a whole year.

          I misunderstood.

I'm not trying to be a dick or anything, but how much are you doing about it? To help the rest of the world, that is? A lot of people in this country talk the talk, but end up doing so little about it. I find that the most interesting part of this kind of conversation. Everyone gets choked up on how lucky we are, but they don't have the heart to do anything about it.

I'm not talking about doing anything about it, I'm talking about not taking for granted what we have here. What do you want me to do about it? Drive some food over to Africa in my jet car?

On the other side, our country has worked so hard to help out others. Now we are on the edge of destroying our own country. I think it's time to take care of ourselves and get our problems fixed. Who can we help if we no longer have the power to do so? Who is going to help us?

i think its time for the world to work together to make it better for all. we are so fucking stupid as humans. we set up imaginary borders and call them by different names and fight over them. here is an idea, how about we call it earth and actually live together in piece and work together as 1 people.

it will never happen though so i am just blabbering.

i tell ya what would bring us together, its about the only thing that would. if we were threatened by a alien race. if we had something to fight other then ourselves, then and only then would we work together as the same race instead of "Americans" "Russian" "Chinese" etc.. kind of sad that the only thing to bring us together would be war.

Our family actually does something about it. Through this program, my grandparents took in 2 kids, and my parents took in 1 child. We send each child $30 a month, and in return we get letters and pictures.

This kid talks about how fortunate he is to have a paper and pencil in a classroom where 80% don't have anything.

The problem with many people, inlcuding myself, is once we have something, we want more. And when we gegt more, we want something else.

The problem is that if something happened to kill the US economy, etc. Bring it to a dead stop, right now, the world would be fucked. No one would have the ability to help us.

It is not the place of a government to aid foreign nations. I have never understood why politicians in this country push for foreign aid. It does less for a country than a sweat shops ever have. It is the place of people and organized groups. When you put too much power into one organized groups hands, you get the Bush Administration. Its never a good idea to give too much power to one entity.

In response to what you can do Bouncer. For all the wrong the Catholic Church does, it still does good through its Philanthropic endevours. It doesn't even have to be a church, there are thousands of non-profit organizations that help people all over the world, including the U.S. I just don't understand why being thankful for what you have is important. Its more important to help others. From personal experience , there has never been anything more rewarding than helping people truly in need.
