    Check the fine print on the severance. My guess is that you'll collect (& not have to repay) severance until you find another job. Once again, hope you get something better.
    Thanks everyone, really. It's gets really hard to stay positive in these horrible times. Actually the admin from my old company has forwarded my resume to a few recruiters, so maybe something will happen here soon.

    So, if the severance is mine no matter if I get a job or not, I can't then go and collect unemployment, could I? That would be like double dipping for like 6 months! How great would that be!

      There seems to be some difference of opinion here so you will have to check with someone at your work. My understanding was that a severance (maybe the long term ones) were so that the company would have a set amount they would be paying out instead of someone collecting unemployment until, when ever.
