what do you need to consolidate?
you goal is to get a loan with lower interest rate than what you currently pay and while having an affordable payment. hows your credit? if its descent you'll get a good interest rate with your new loan.
dont use debt consolidation company! they charge you money for things you can do.
options
*use equity in home - home equity loan (if you own something)
*get personal loan (bank or credit union) usually higher interest rates
*look into debet consolidation loan program at a bank
shop around, and DONT RACK UP YOUR CREDIT CARDS AFTER YOU CONSOLIDATE.
but you also dont want to close out your credit cards. you dont want to lose your credit history. this will kill your score.
i'll take your speaker system and tv off your hands lolLast edited by NYCmitch25; 07-08-08, 07:59 PM.

Do you want a debt consolidation loan or are you thinking about a credit counseling type thing? A few years ago I was about $35,000 in credit card debt. I was paying the bills but wasnt making any progess getting them paid off. I called a credit counseling company and they call all your credit cards and get them to lower the interest rates and set up a monthly payment amout with all of them. Then I paid the credit counseling people once a month and they paid all the credit cards. Its nice because you pay one payment a month and your bills are all paid for the month. And the amount I had to pay out was like $400 less a month then before I joined. It took 48 months and everything was paid off. I would recommend it for sure.

The fees are all donation you dont have to pay them anything. I gave them like $15 a month.Originally posted by Timma View PostI've got about $18,000 i need to get rid of. I looked into the credit counseling thing and it just didnt seem right with the fees and stuff. I was thinking about a loan from my bank so i may still try that avenue.
