I'm pretty crafty and I have painkillers but I don't want to use them unless I have to - just curious if it should be better by now or not ...

It was bent backwards at the first joint - I snatched it back into place out of instinct when I saw it - it's the right index finger....

Is there a reason that you don't go to the doctor?

I'm guessing he doesn't have medical insurance and the doctor will charge him an arm and a leg (and a finger). Correct?

The trainer on my club soccer team used to set broken fingers. The first thign is when you set it, you shouldn't pull it straight up. Bone rubs against bone. If you pulled it that way, it might be best to see a doctor. The correct way is to push it away from the joint, pull it up above where it should be, and the gently ease it back into place. Then simply splint it up. Not much else a doctor could do unless surgery is needed.

As for healing, you should regain decent movement in about a week if I remember correctly. Not perfect, but noticeably. If not, go to the doctor. He might have to dislocate it again to reset it coorectly.

I originally just jerked it back to its original position without thinking twice about *how* to go about it - my body just kind of made me do it as a reaction to seeing my finger so out of whack - it definitely wasn't my mind/logic telling me to do it that way...

I went to an Acute Care Express today and they dislocated and then reset it the way it was described above - said I tore some extra stuff up when it broke and I tried to fix it myself but it should heal fine now - just sucks because they said it hurt more today than it would have originally simply because they basically had to rebreak an already broken bone....

The only time I had available to go to the doctor before today was after they were already closed and an emergency room visit is hell with my individual policy insurance - unless it's going to be really costly or is life or death I prefer to avoid paying for ER visits - I only had to spend $25 on my visit today compared to what likely would have cost me hundreds otherwise :hang:

It never ceases to amaze me how many people try to self-diagnose and self-medicate. When something goes wrong with their sink or toilet, they don't even hesitate for a moment to call a plumber. But when their health is on the line, they don't want to let a doctor take care of it. Jeeeez!

Lol - I have broken lots of bones here and there and was just kinda looking at it like "it's just a finger" - not to mention the pain didn't really set in until yesterday - it hurt before but was tolerable - the problem was that it seemed to get worse with time for some reason and I had/have almost no range of motion with it ...

Just to add insult to my own injury let me ask another question - do you think it was wrong of me to work back with heavy deads and rows Thursday with it like that :sillyfu:????
