  • 1 in 4 adults now obese

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports today that the number of adults who say they’re obese jumped 2 percent between 2005 and 2007.

That means one in every four adults in the U.S. is now obese. (25.6 percent in 2007 vs. 23.9 percent in 2005). And that doesn’t include people who are overweight.

Obesity is defined as a body mass index (a measure of weight related to height) of 30 or more. For a 5 foot 4 inch tall person, that translates into carrying an extra 30 pounds above your ideal weight.
