I think most of it has stemmed from when I totaled my Jeep - I didn't have my seat belt on and took quite a beating - I had nagging injuries before but they've only gotten worse since the accident....Originally posted by THE BOUNCER View Postsounds to me like soccer needs to be cut back a bit.

doesn't make much sense. part of what helps you grow is the inflammation in the muscle, the more blood and nutrients in the muscle the better. an ice bath would halt all that.Originally posted by Mr incredible View Postapparently if you use them immediately after a workout they speed recovery

Could it be possible the ice bath might increase blood flow? Ice on a single area will cool the one area. If you ice your whole body, your nervous system might respond by pumping more blood to try to keep you warm, thereby speeding up the process?Originally posted by THE BOUNCER View Postdoesn't make much sense. part of what helps you grow is the inflammation in the muscle, the more blood and nutrients in the muscle the better. an ice bath would halt all that.
I have no clue if i am on the right track. But it seems icing one area versus whole body would elicit a different response from your CNS

good read, never really thought of it like this. i wonder if it would be beneficial in actual muscle growth also.Originally posted by alwaysgrowing View PostBBC Sport Academy | Treatment Room | Features | The cold benefits of ice baths
Here you go. Simple enough explanation about removing lactic acid
"When you get into an ice bath for five to 10 minutes, the icy cold water causes your blood vessels to tighten and drains the blood out of your legs. After 10 minutes your legs feel cold and numb.
So when Wilko gets out of the bath, his legs fill up with 'new' blood that invigorates his muscles with oxygen to help the cells function better.
At the same time, the more blood coming into Jonny's legs will have to leave as well, draining away and at the same time taking with it the lactic acid that has built up from his match. "

i think it might benefit muscle growth. Think of working out. We drain our muscles of nutrients, then load up directly after. The ice bath is similar. Ten minutes in the ice bath drains the blood, then getting out rushes the blood back in. Similar concept I think. I might have to go buy a thermometer for my bath

i dont think its really similar at all to be honest. training causes the muscle to swell with blood. more blood = more nutrients. ice would have just the opposite effect. at least the part were you are actually in the ice.Originally posted by alwaysgrowing View Posti think it might benefit muscle growth. Just switch out between a hot shower, ice bath for a good 45 min to an hour.
This obviously only works if you have two baths.
I doubt being in ice for such a short period is going to be detrimental to the nutrient content of your muscles.
