  • My Uncle sent me this...about Obama, from a soldier

This is from a friend whose son is deployed in Afghanistan and he writes about his experience of Obama. I know we all have our differences, but he felt it important to let others know of how the soldiers feel!

I don't know each of your personal political convictions, and apologize if anyone finds this offensive. I thought it was important enough to share. This is Jeff's first hand view of Senator Obama.

    Hello everyone,
As you know I am not a very political person. I just wanted to pass along that Senator Obama came to Bagram Afghanistan for about an hour on his visit to "The War Zone". I wanted to share with you what happened. He got off the plane and got into a bullet proof vehicle, got to the area to meet with the Major General (2 Star) who is the commander here at Bagram. As the Soldiers where lined up to shake his hand he blew them off and didn't say a word as he went into the conference room to meet the General. As he finished, the vehicles took him to the Clam Shell (pretty much a big top tent that military personnel can play basketball or work out in with weights) so he could take his publicity pictures playing basketball. He again shunned the opportunity to talk to Soldiers to thank them for their service. So really he was just here to make a showing for the American's back home that he is their candidate for President. I think that if you are going to make an effort to come all the way over here you would thank those that are providing the freedom that they are providing for you.

I swear we got more thanks from the NBA Basketball Players or the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders than from one of the Senators, who wants to be the President of the United States . I just don't understand how anyone would want him to be our Commander-and-Chief. It was almost that he was scared to be around those that provide the freedom for him and our great country.

If this is blunt and to the point I am sorry but I wanted you all to know what kind of caliber of person he really is. What you see in the news is all fake.

    In service,
    CPT Jeffrey S. Porter
    Battle Captain
    TF Wasatch
    American Soldier

Jeffrey S. Porter, of the Utah-based 142nd Military Intelligence Battalion, wrote an Obama-smearing "that guy hates the troops" screed the other day. Of course, his email got picked up by all the best right wing sites--it was ready-made for viral dissemination--and signed, "In service, CPT Jeffrey S. Porter, Battle Captain, TF Wasatch, American Soldier (married and father of 6 children)".

Now, after the Captain's note (and probably his service file?) was punched full of more holes than a post-SINKEX Spruance, the hapless Captain Porter is now saying something very different:

"I am writing this to ask that you delete my e-mail and not forward it, after checking my sources some of the information that was put out in my e-mail was wrong. This e-mail was meant only for my family. Please respect my wishes and delete the e-mail and if there are any blogs you have my e-mail portrayed on I would ask if you would take it down too.”

I challenge Captain Jeffrey S. Porter to produce a single letter to his immediate family that ends with "In service".

More bullshit bullshit about the election.

Bottom line...they both suck as candidates, Government has turned into a huge cesspool of corruption and greed. It doesn't matter which figurehead wins the presidential race, the house, senate, lobbyists, and big business will make sure that all decisions benefit the government officials.

While I agree that it was shitty he didn't shake hands with the troops. However, it sounds tome like top security may have been the focus. Isn't it possible that's why he didn't make a huge production of it? Especially since Afghanistan is a much more hostile area..There already has been somewhat of an attempt on Obama's life...(the same person made an attempt on Bush). Secondly, Obama hasn't been for the war since the beginning. But again, he still should have showed them respect, and that doesn't give him an excuse not to do it. It is possible though, that it just wasn't safe enough.

I would imagine they are taking safety precautions with Obama that they never had to before with the white nominees.
