How many of you work jobs where you work crazy hours? I took a job two weeks ago and for the most part I work 8-7. However, there have already been 3 days that I have had to work until 10 or so. How do you all manage workouts and eating consistently with your jobs if they are crazy hours?

Nice way to look at it. I feel the same way. Nothing beats a good early morning training session, once you get into a good routine.Originally posted by Shibby View PostIt can be very difficult, to me it is always better to work out before work. It's much easier to get through a work day not at a 100% than it is to get through a work out not at 100%.

My desk is full of food and so is my tool box. I have a little mini foreman grill I cook everything from eggs to chicken and steak on it. Here is what I can see in my desk right now 8 cans tuna in water, smoke flavor, dried onions, garlic, oatmeal, canned chicken (rinse it really good way to much salt) Natty Peanut butter, almonds, walnuts, tons of vits and minerals and that is just my desk My big roll around tool box has a mini fridge in it that is full of steak, frozen fish fillets, chicken, broccoli, field greens, eggs, cottage cheese, water and some other crap. It is really easier for me to stay on a strict diet when I work then when I am home because I have it all right here. Be creative bring groceries to work. Do what Grinder did cook it up bag it and label it. I thought that was a great way to do it.

Listen, you're just going to have to get creative. Isn't there a gym within a 10 mile radius of your work? Why not go on your lunch hour and do cardio? If you working that many hours, then you get at least an hour for lunch. If there is no gym around your work, why can't you just walk/run outside? When you come t a road block, you can't just stop and give up. You have to find a way around it.Originally posted by NewbieChris View PostI do pre-cook meals for the week. My biggest concern are the workout, I have moved a round of cardio and lifiting to the morning, but is there anyone that works late hours. What do you do at night for cardio?

Not guaranteed anything as an Exempt employee. The exact wording of my boss when I asked if there was a gym within a short drive and discussing why I was curious about that, "Hopefully you won't have time to run."Originally posted by redsquirrel View PostListen, you're just going to have to get creative. Uh, yea. The problem isn't that I am not thinking creatively, its that I literally walk into work and don't stop until the time I walk out of the building, which is never consistent. I eat at my desk on a regimented schedule and I moved my workout and one session of cardio to the morning. I also do NOT have a set schedule that I know about the weekend before. So pre-planning is out. All I know is that I will be there late Monday because we have a presentation Wednesday and Tuesday I am going down to Comcast to meet the VP of Finance. Then I have to do data collection all day Tuesday. My schedule is never set so there is nothing I can really do about future notice. I am also not tethered to a desk because I have to go on site to collect companies spend documents sometimes.
I am trying to work with the expectations my superiors have for me and the goals I have set for myself. There has to be someone here who has worked a job like this before.

I have moved to lifting and doing a session of running in the morning. I have also come to realize the second cardio workout might have to die if I want to keep this job.Originally posted by The_Grinder View PostUnless you are working 15 hour shifts, you should have time to fit it in. Sometimes I get up at 7:00 to make sure I get to the gym and to work. You just have to plan it all ahead according to your schedule. Do you get your schedule for the week in advance?
No, I do not have a work schedule. I work at a financial consulting firm in a position that I am extremely lucky to have, as I am a management trainee / analyst. That being said, I have responsibilities where I go on site and do things like I mentioned above. I am worried about my diet when I am not at my desk or when I am with clients all day long. I don't know yet what my meal plan will have to be like because I have no idea what Tuesday will be like. I was hoping someone with a similar job could give me a heads up as to how to plan for the unexpected in terms of meals, etc.

the more hours you work the harder it is going to get. what makes it even worse is this job you took seems to have a bunch of unknowns, etc..
you cant plan for unknowns and thus your diet and training will suffer for it.
you are looking for answers were none exist. you are just going to need to do the best you can do and know that your body is probably going to suffer for the crazy hours etc...

Are there any small bars that I could use that are any good? I am assuming that lunches on site will be taken and i can just eat small healthy food. Thus the small snack, if concealable to a bag and quick enough that I can excuse myself to the bathroom to eat it might work.Originally posted by THE BOUNCER View Postthe more hours you work the harder it is going to get. what makes it even worse is this job you took seems to have a bunch of unknowns, etc..

bars are really not very good at all. they are full of binders, gluten, sugar alcohols etc..Originally posted by NewbieChris View PostAre there any small bars that I could use that are any good? much better off with a quick protein shake and some nuts. you can have that just as fast or faster then you can a bar.
